How much a week on groceries for 1A + 1C?

I have been keeping my daily diary for 6 days now. Won't be doing any more grocery shopping tomorrow, so have added up all bits and pieces and it comes to £38.16 for the week for me and a ten year old boy.
We both have packed lunches, and also I have got a dog and cat to feed. Also this week I had to buy washing powder which was £4.00 although no doubt every week there is something similar that needs buying.
Rather depressingly, going back over my debit card the week before last I spent £78 in Asda in one week and in March a whopping £128 in a week. I have been avoiding the clothes and dvd section, and have obviously cut down a lot, but after reading some posts on here I feel sure I can cut it down further.
Is it better to do a weekly shop or two or three smaller shops over the week?
Any advice very very welcome.

I find a weekly shop much better (budget wise). I used to do one big shop per month and a top-up shop each week but since joining these guys I meal plan, only go to the supermarket ONCE a week, take a list and stick to it.
Only downside is that some nights (like tonight for instance) I could murder a chocolate bar, and there isn't one here!!!0 -
Since moving to a place with no supermarkets and only little local shops i have found i shop daily and get only what i can carry. Try ditching the car, your much less likely to over shop if you have to lug it all home!
I also am less likley to buy 'other' stuff such as dvds as the little shops don't have them. I also find i can get some good bargains as they reduce a lot of stuff late each day, which is the time i'm coming home and do the shopping.
I'm in the same situation as you 1a + 1c. I think i spend about £35 pw inc cleaning stuff though not inc toiletries. We also have packed lunches.
Good luckThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0
