Unforunately, I think if you still have them at our age, you are stuck with them.... Having said that, I don't think I have seen any 60+ yr olds with acne :D

I'm 53 and still have acne. I also have rosacea and eczema so really struggle.

Have you tried hot cloth cleansing? I use the No 7 Boots one and have found that good. (You do need to buy about 30 flannels to use a clean one each time.. maybe I exaggerate, 20.) Also there is a Loreal turquoise stick with roll on ball which is great for clearing up spots.
  • I have been using evening primrose oil capsules high strength 1000mg for the last 4 months and have much better skin.
  • Acne was a condition included in the second series of the Food Hospital shown on Channel 4 earlier this year. The patient, a young guy in his 20's with severe acne, was put on a low glycemic index diet. The outcome was positive but the acne hadn't completely cleared.

This was the first time I had heard of acne associated with glycemic index and spikes in blood sugar levels.

j.e.j. touched on it, there is a proven link between acne and consuming dairy products.

I'm currently trying to figure out if apples affect my skin. I get a tingling sensation on my face at the first taste of apple.

  • I suffer with acne still at 32. I find spot treatments like clearesil or freederm make it worse. I've found st ives scrub very good and also. From the poundshop they do a tea tree facial scrub and it's great.

Also moisturiser I use either simple or my favourite aloe Vera cream. Aloe Vera is very calming for irritated skin but make sure it the cream not the gel.
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

Just posted about this on another thread, but I've rehauled my skincare/make up routine recently. I'm 29, have really oily skin and up until a year or so ago had really bad acne.

I took Roaccutane which cleared it up brilliantly, but now I'm not taking it my skin is back to being really oily and I get the odd flare up.

I would stear well clear of the topical antibiotic creams (on prescription) as they are so damaging and it's so tempting to slather your face in them. Instead Dermalogica Medibac Overnight Clearing Gel which you can apply to individual spots - it has salicylic acid which dries them out and clears them up in hours. It's pricey, but my argument/justification is that it encourages me not to go mad and cover my face in it!

I've stopped using scrubs (used to be obsessed with St Ives Invigorating but it's so expensive and I found it so abrasive that it was stripping my skin, which was making it oilier and angrier) - in place of scrubs I cleanse twice a day (before shower AM and before bed PM) and then use a chemical exfoliant once or twice a week (Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant is brilliant - again, it's pricey but as you need to use so little it lasts for months, plus it doesn't sting like some of them do)

I also try use a rehydrating mask once a week, which I would never have done before as I was so against putting anything on my skin I thought would block it up and make the spots worse, but long term because my skin isn't dehydrated it's less oily and so I don't get the spots in the first place.

Clarins do an amazing moisturiser - Ultra Matte Rebalancing Lotion which is more of a light gel than a cream so doesnt feel like it's sitting on your skin. I used to use the Biore pore control one but cant get it anywhere and think I prefer this Clarins one anyway.

If you google Lisa Eldridge she has a website with loads of videos, and a youtube channel with make up tutorials (she's a make up artist) and also recommends products (make up, cleansers, moisturisers, sunscreen, etc etc). She has oily skin and so most of these vids are oily skin/acne friendly. She also has an acne/blemish covering make up tutorial

I'm 29 and have cystic acne, it has recently gone crazy and flared up so badly that my doctor has put me on antibiotics for 2 months. I have tried most face washes and the ones that help most are Carleys clean and smooth which is american and St Ives scrubs.

Also make sure that any moisturisers you use are 'non comedogenic' so they don't block your pores.

Where do you get hold of the Carleys stuff?
