Small, Short Term Loan

Hi guys, new to the forum so I apologise if I am posting in the wrong thread. Basically I've got myself in to a bit of a silly situation over Christmas. Went on a few too many nights out, parties and over did the shopping a little. I owe my dad £400 for his CC bill which is due to be paid at the start of Jan. I currently have £235 here and just need a quick way of making up the rest. I was thinking an Argos store card, buy a PS3, sell it on Gumtree at a loss. Then I can settle the bill, pay off Argos when i get paid (20th Jan), close the account and never think about it again. I still live at home so I have no real bills to worry about apart from phone bill which has been paid for this month and January's will come out after pay day. I am happy to pay a bit of interest and take the hit on the loss to pay it. Just want to avoid Wonga etc. Thanks!

NO!!!!!!!! Don't buy something and sell it on at a loss, this is just daft, and stay away form pay day loans.

If you stay at home, explain the the old man that you cant pay in full this month, but you will take care of the rest next month and cover any interest he accrues on his credit card as a result. Surely your old man is a reasonable chappy?
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

Yeah I really do need to start putting away each month, I have a secondary bank account so I will set up a standing order this month definitely! I dont't have a CC so that isn't really an option. Think my best bet might just be to stick out the embarassment and have a word with him.

An honest conversation backed up by mature actions to avoid a repeat of the situation would make more sense.
  • Agree avoid wonga, quickquid etc.

Best advice, speak to your old man - tell him what you were going to do. If he see's sense he'll let you wait till you have the money.

Might be worth getting a 2nd job for some extra cash, will help stop those bad habits that are making you spend as you'll have less time on your hands :D

Just talk to him, tell him you have half now and when you get paid you can give him the other half.

If you go to him with a problem and offer up a solution that usually goes down much better than just saying you can't pay. I would stick an offer on the table of paying him interest on the money owed, if you do it properly and in a businesslike manner it's likely he'll tell you to not be so daft.

And always keep a few notes hidden away in case of disaster, you'd be surprised how often you need it!!

    It is.

A bit of embarrassment now is far better than years of financial ruin with payday loan companies and other lowlife.
