Hi, and a Merry Christmas to you all .....

Well, as many of you will know, we are pretty green as energy usage goes, masses of insulation, solar gain and a cozy log burner which provides the majority of our heatload, so seeing that we hadn't used the heating system since last Spring as a precaution I tested the central heating for about hour last Wednesday, and bled a little air from one of the radiators pending the arrival of elderly relatives over the Xmas period .....

I'm quite sure that many of you reading this would like to thank our household personally for the very mild spell we've had over the past couple of days .... it must be us and I'm pretty sure that you could see the dull red glow eminating from our house from orbit, global warming/climate change ?, yes that's all down to us - you can see the rainclouds forming directly over our roof, so aplogies to anyone who has had a little rain recently ..... The central heating's been on at the same time as the log-burner with the thermostat in the hall set to a reasonable 18C, not bad for the coolest room in the house, but to 'keep the heat in the living area' (phew !) a number of the doors are closed which results in it being 25C two rooms away from the fire. I'm sitting well over 25 feet away & I know it's hot because there's a Galilean thermometer a couple of feet behind me and the floats are all at the bottom .... so it's at least 28C .... walking down the room towards the fire to throw on another log, as you do when it's 'getting cold', you notice it getting warmer with each step, so I've no idea what the temperature is where the 'oldies' are ...... I'm sitting here in shirt sleeves cooking and I've just had to fetch a cardigan and a throw to keep someone warm ......

Help ... I can't breathe .... I am that Turkey, this must be the oven .... anyone, anyone, please ... rescue me, we're easy to find - just look for the rainclouds and a post-nuclear-apocalyptic glow at ground level ... that's us .... I'm looking for sympathy .... I am that turkey :D;)

    Hi All

    Hope you've had a good festive break so-far ... :)

.... Well, I thought it was hot yesterday <phew !> .... the thermal mass did it's job and moderated the heat quite well overnight ... the problem is that it's being 'topped-up' even more today ... it's well over 28C again where I am sitting, it's just that it reached that temperature quite a few hours earlier today and it's still rising !! :( .....

Last night was awful ... I could hardly sleep due to the heat & it's against my religion to open the window to let the heat out, also Mrs Z would simply worry & 'nag' that the 'oldies' would become encompassed in a shroud of ice (as if ! ... it's sub-tropical everywhere now !).

... never mind, there's more xmas pud currently on the way, laced with plenty of 'christmas spirit', followed by yet another bottle of red to dull the senses !! ...

LOL. Ive just got back from my Inlaws. I know the feeling well about being a turkey. Tee shirt and shorts when I stayed. their in double pull overs complaining about the cold and turning the fire up even higher. And im in the corner mumbling about conservation.

Over the last few years I've tried the 'get used to it' approach, and now find 17C cold(ish), 18C not bad, 19C pleasant, and 20C too drowsy. 28C would probably make me throw up the Xmas dinner! (Apologies for that seasonal image).
