Hi Russel
I have been looking into this for 3 hours and now have a headache and struggling to form basic sentences.
but basically it seems that i owe any companies in the uk and any companies outside the uk i do not need to pay?
Are you under the same impression
not really, you make the choice as an individual whether you service the debt or not, its the risk the lender takes.
if you choose notto pay you face the consequences, for small unsecured amounts I can't see creditiors chasing to much if they relise you don't have the means.0 -

The Question you should ask yourself is how would you feel if you had won and doubled or even tripled your money, and then the organisation you gambled with decided that, they didnt want to pay you, so were trying to worm there way out of it by any means?
If you gambled it and lost, then you should pay up!0 -

Totally agree with you but when someone 'lends' you money to gamble with then I have little sympathy for the company or individual involved...I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.
Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!0 -
Debts from Ireland are the worst, especially Dublin, £2000 will become £4000, then £8000... as it keeps dublin and dublin and dublin.
Only Joking.
Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland gaming and wagering contracts are void under Article 170 of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (NI) Order 1985, so they are not legally enforceable and are not valid deductions.
Don't know about Ireland, but the UK is only if its covered by one of the following is it enforcable: Gambling Act 2005 or the National Lottery etc. Act 1993, or is pursuant to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
Out side these in the UK I don't have a clue.
You are aware Northern Ireland is part of the UK?"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

As Russe11 says, there is absolutely no doubt that a gambling contract does not become unenforceable in GB (nb Gambling Act 2005 is GB only) simply because it is a gambling contract. The confusion arises because gambling contracts were unenforceable in GB in the past.
I guess there may be an issue if the company you gambled with is outside GB and the law of the contract is not English Law. But I can't believe that the company would have let you run up a debt if they have no way of collecting it.0
