I was also wondering if it was best to wait until after Xmas. Will they knock much off?

Cheapest, yes, also the worst. Supermarket branded TV's (Technika at Tesco, Bush at Argos etc), are invariably of terrible quality, and will probably last until just out of warranty. And you'll never get spares for them, as the brands don't exist in the real world-they're simply badged up old products.
Pay a little bit more at Richer Sounds after Christmas for a decent budget brand such as LG or Samsung. For example (pre-Xmas price):

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I did see that, but mine is for the spare bedroom & will only be used some weekends when I have a guest.

It's still a false economy when the difference is £20-£30.
The supermarket no-name brands will cost you far more over the life of the TV.
Why subject your guests to a dreadful picture?

Ive just bought two major items from Richer Sounds, they willprice match or haggle, also if you join their vIP club, they email you a voucher for another £10 off.

5 year warranty for just 10% of the selling price.

Service - brilliant, paid over the phone, delivered 2 days later and haggled for free delivery.

    Cannot fault them.

By the way, the same tv (a Toshiba) was in Tesco's which is where I got the model no from and came home to research it was £40 more expensive.

    Well happy.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I recently read a report on cheaper priced TVs. It was by Which? who I would consider a reputable group.
They stated that the cheaper brands (eg Technika/Tescos sold TVs and so on) require more energy to run and over a year or two years at the most are quite a bit more expensive when you counter in the running costs and add to the TV cost.

And that's without considering the forever climbing rates of using electricity.

Of course, if you run on solar power and aren't concerned with how long the TVs work for (another issue) then you can probably just ignore this.
