House smells of smoke from next door

My sister has the same problem, and the environmental health people came out, but didn't do anything, or advise. It is dreadful though, my other sister is a smoker, but she always smokes outside, because I can detect cigarettes from a good distance. I would have a look at the walls though, as I am sure it can be dangerous, especially when your OH has problems.0

Thanks for all the advice. Will try to work out where it's coming in if we can and sort that.
As the same neighbours also let their dog poo in the back yard and don't clear it up for weeks, I don't think asking them to stop smoking would be terribly effective!
We own our house, but the neighbours' is council let, so can't really ask or expect them to do anything buildings-wise, so will see what we can do.
Thanks again and any more ideas welcome!0 -
Completely different problem but my brothers old next door neighbor kept snakes/spiders and lizards (in his bathroom)
And they often woke up to cockroaches/mealworms and other feeds in their bathroom.....they were getting in through the tiniest cracks between the wall and the flooring, have a look if you have any gap there and silicone it if so.
As a smoker myself, i wouldn't wish my filthy habbit on anyone else, i smoke outside and you shouldn't have to put up with anyones second hand smoke xx xxxI will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -
You could try a product called Nilodor tap a drop. It is a super concentrated deodoriser. You only need literally a drop.
It costs about £4 for a tiny bottle, but a little goes a very long way. Sorry can't suggest anything else.
As a smoker myself I do appreciate how pervasive the smell is, especially once it's 'stale'.0 -

O M G !!!!!! I would have been nailing a for sale sign to the front gate within 10 seconds. I would have been in a hotel in the next 10.0 -

As the council is the landlord then you should be able to get in touch with them, explain the problem and ask for their imput. You will probably have to go halves on any work that needs doing as I assume that the shared wall will have shared responsibility, but that is better than 100%!0 -

As someone who used to suffer the same problem with smoking neighbours, I thought you might like to know that smoking outside can often be worse as the smoke will drift into their house through open windows
I thought I had the same problem as OP of smoke coming through the walls somehow only to discover they'd taken to smoking in the back garden next to my window. The stench was truly awful“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
