evening all ,

I have a DMP with stepchange all set up now , it's been a month now. We have credit with the following:

tesco card - letter within a week saying they accept the dmp payment.
M&S card- not heard back yet
post office cards- not heard back yet
mbna card- acceptance letter within a couple of weeks
old mbna debt with capital securities - not heard anything yet
amex- not heard anthing yet
barclays loan and 2 overdrafts - letter from stepchange saying they have rejected the offer. it says not to worry and they will keeping sending our payments anyway.

so what happens with the ones that say they don't accept it?

Step Change keep making the payments and if Barclays keep rejecting them and then tries to pursue you for the debt in court, you & Stepchange say " well we try to make payments but they rejected them" and it makes Barclays look stupid.
  • Barclays probably will eventually accept. They will just try and play games for a bit and see if they can get more money out of you. The likelyhood of it going to court is pretty slim. It costs them money and if Stepchange keep sending payments then the courts are likely to rule in your favour anyway.

Just bear with it...they will accept eventually.

All his/it's posts are selective snippets of text from earlier posts in the thread. It seems to be some sort of bot. Reported.

  • Also, OP, you are only 1 month into your dmp and some creditors take a while to accept. A couple of my creditors took 6 months to accept. Ride the storm for a bit and it will all settle down.

Good luck and keep us posted as to how you get on.

  • thanks folks , 6 months? wow , i guess they like to get a good few months of charges added on if they can get away with it! I feel better knowing it's all standard proceedure then , just a matter of riding out the phonecalls and letters then!
  • Some companies will also write back to try and squeeze a bit more. However Barclays should realise you are dealing with a non fee charging company. If it was ever to go to court then they would see that your income and expenditure was prepared honestly and no inflated figures. When I worked in the debt collection industry we always accepted Payplan and the former CCCS offers as we knew that court action would be a waste of time. Its ironic but all companies that belong to the credit association have to pay into charities like step change to help people struggling.

Yep, 6 months of them playing games! Pointless really as they were going to get no more out of me and they were wasting their money on phone calls and letters so it probably cost them a bit!

Just ride the phone calls. What I did was give them my Stepchange ref number and tell them that they should be dealing with Stepchange, tell them that you had made a note of this call and that you would not be dealing with them any further on the phone and that all calls will be noted and classed as harrassment and then just hang up. Don't enter into conversation with them.
