Corn on my foot :(

Hi,
I have got a painful corn on the ball of my foot. I didn't know what it was, so went to the doctors about a month ago and he gave me some cream for hard skin which hasn't worked.
I went to boots yesterday and got some corn removal pads. Now, all it tells you on the pack is how to apply them, and then it says remove corn after 4 days.
How am I meant to do that? At the moment, it is just like a white spot on the ball of my foot, but when I press it, there is like a lump underneath.
Thank you.

I would go and see a chiropodist.
They know tons more about feet than doctors.
Could easily be a verucca. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Hi
I did ask for a referall to a chiropodist but was told there are no chiropodist on the NHS in my area unless you are a pensioner. I don't have the money at the moment pay privately.
I also thought verucca's were black?
Thanks0 -
Corns are usually caused by excessive pressure on one part of the foot. Its basically a build up of hard skin with a core of even harder skin.
Usual causes are badly fitting footwear, or bio-mechanical problems (the way you walk).
A chiropodist would be able to make some sort of insole to redirect the pressure around the corn, allowing it to disappear by itself.
Wear comfortable fitting shoes, dont wear high heels as this will add to the pressure on the balls of your feet, making it worse. You could try putting cotton wool around the area of the corn to divert some of the pressure.
Theres some info in this link, (if you dont mind seeing some pictures of feet...) ) http://www.myfootshop.com/detail.asp?Condition=Corn%20And%20Callus
Definitely ask for a chiropodist referral though for long term treatment..0 -
Yes - Chiropodists were shoved out the NHS several years ago.
Generally about £25 a visit, but I would ring around before you decide you can't afford it.
I'm at the other end of the body, so I'm no expert on veruccas, but my son had one that wasn't black. How to find a dentist.

Also, if you live in the right area, many of the Podiatry/Chiropody schools will see members of the public. Its much much cheaper than going private, so long as you dont mind students doing the work..
Here's a list of podiatry schools in the UK:

I had a little wart on my finger recently and got rid of it with garlic. Put a thin slice of garlic on it and kept it covered with a plaster. Did that for a week by which time there was only a black spot left, like a scab. Not being patient I then put on a drop of wart remover for just two nights and then it was ready to just peel off really easily.
Now, when I did the google search about 'garlic for warts' it also said it would work for veruccas and corns. Worth a go and totally painless, just aware of a slight tingling sensation sometimes.
If Mum gets her corn back on her little toe she'll be having a go with the garlic. She hated corn pads as they were too painful0 -
Forgot to say that the reason I had the wart remover was that I had had a go with it before. I tried it for weeks and the wart was not going so I gave up. The garlic worked soooooooooooooo quickly0

I have a corn on the ball of my foot,a chirodist showed me how to use a scalpel to par it down as it reappears ,and it isn't painful at all now.
Doctors had been telling me for years that it was a verrucae and I had been treating it as such,no surprise that it didn't go away.
See a chiropist even if it's only once and you will be able to deal with it yourself after that,it cost me £22Fear God and dread nought :cool:0 -
I feel you pain, literally, I have had a verruca for about eight years, it is on the ball of my foot and is really painful. The reason I have had it for so long is that none of the treamtents will remove it.
I have been to two chiropodists, one tried to cut it out with a razor blade and it just poured with blood, another tried a revolutionary new treatment which involved going for six visits, needless to say, it didn't work either, so I'm £200.00 worse off than before.
I have also had it treated twice by my GP, the freezing treatment, this failed to shift it.
I have tried every over-the-counter remedy, none worked. If anyone is thinking of trying the Scholl freezing treatment, this is an utter load of rubbish and expensive too. I don't recommend wasting your money.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
