in Cutting tax
Hi apologies if this is in the wrong section wasn’t really sure where it fitted. This is on behalf of my boyfriend, he has just finished a temporary contract where despite doing a p46 he has been emergency taxed the whole time (3 weeks with one pay week to go), will he have to claim this back at the end of the tax year or will the tax he pays for next few months be adjusted (will just be regular PAYE) will the fact he might have to claim JSA make a difference?

What is the code number applied? Can you provide an example of pay and tax deducted?0

Ah not sure code is 0t1.
OT1 is not the emergency tax code but is a tax code used when no P45 or P46 has been used. This code gives no tax-free allowance so it's fairly likely he has overpaid tax.
You say he submitted a P46. Was he working before this?
What happened when he left? Was he given a P45? If he is claiming JSA he should give this P45 to the job centre.0
