Half price turkeys Christmas Eve

So after getting some last minute food shopping in last Christmas and seeing the turkey that I had just bought half price (and there were a LOT left) my wife and I have decided to take the risk and try and get one this year once they drop in price.
We have bought other meat so if the plan fails we will still eat Christmas day but I was just wondering if anyone else did this or if anyone had any tips about what time to buy etc.
Many thanks.
