Before anyone starts trawling through this site it's worth noting that they only do single vision lenses at present - no bargains then for my varifocal lenses!

Either buy some specs yourself or at least read the first post before you reply.

The D and A website is offering half price eye tests and 10% off the cost of glasses (download vouchers and take them in store). You can also get a pair of free prescription sunglasses when you purchase a pair of rimless glasses. Probably prices still aren't comparable to websites but good if you feel happier dealing face to face with someone! I was offered a test the same day and was very happy with the service I received there. See https://www.danda.co.uk/opticians/promotions

I've ordered my new sunglasses from site4eyes, on the back of this thread.

Although I haven't received them yet I have to say the customer service has been outstanding. When I ordered on Wednesday I let them know that I'm off on holiday next Friday, and I had an email back at about 9pm to say the ones I ordered were out of stock - and did I want to chose an alternate pair, in order to receive them on time (or have a refund).
Today, I had a call from the guy making them to confirm my prescription (as it's slightly unusual) and he confirmed that they're sending them out asap so I get them in time.

I'll let you know what they're like when I get them, but so far I'm impressed.

EDIT: Oh and RunningHorse - you do get the option to enter your PD when you order.

Have to say - I just got a new pair of glasses with Transitions (TM) from Fashion Specs Direct

    and they are AWESOME.

I had some glasses before (not sure they were transitions though) and they took ages to go dark and vice versa - these new ones both darken and lighten in no time - but also you can't see any of that annying tint when you are inside or out of UV.

They really have come a long way and vastly improved. Not associated with them at all.

Please can someone help? I really wanted prescription sunglasses but sadly all of the sites mentioned wont do up to my prescription. I seem to have such poor eyesite! My prescription is -9.00 amd none go above -6.

Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks as always

I emailed and this is what they replyed with

The try before you buy option is a scheme where you can pay £4 per
    frame
(and order as many as you like) plus a one off payment (irrespective of
    the
number of frames ordered) of £2.50 for p&p.

In the package you will receive a label and stamps which must be used
    to
return the frames to us, either because you do not like them, or
    because you
want to go ahead and glaze them.

The £4 per frame plus £2.50 p&p is not refundable as it is needed to
    cover
    our administration costs.
