partner applying for credit

hi there

wondering if anyone can advise - I have a protected trust deed (in my name only) since November 2006. I went down this avenue due to having debt accumlated from when I was single and living in my own flat. The debt was in relation to a personal loan and mortgage arrears.

I now live with my fiancee in his house. His mortgage company is the same one as I had arrears with. My question is that he is thinking about applying for a re-mortgage to do some work on the house and Im really concerned that see me living at his address will then reject his application. The debt I had was attached to an old property in my name only. Sorry if this is confusing, its hard to explain!

Im basically saying if he applys for a re-mortgage will or could they reject him because they see that correspondence was sent to me at this address although Im not named on his mortgage and the arrears were on a completely different property. OMG this is confusing.

Before I took out the trust deed I was silly enough to bury my head in the sand, but eventually had a light bulb moment and done something about it. He had obtained credit before I took out the TD. I asked my IP at the time of signing if he would have problems but she didnt seem to think so.

Can anyone shed any light on this or has been in a similar position?

Sorry its so long, couldnt get out what I was trying to say exactly.

Simply living at the same address should not be a problem.

However, if you have any debts in joint names, then your "bad" credit will affect him. If there are no joint debts, he should be OK - but he might have to make a phonecall too, if he's applying online, just to clarify things.

we dont have any debts together, the only thing we have joint is 2 bank accounts which are in good order - thanks to him I must say!

there should be no trouble because you are living in the house.. its no business of theirs as long as he can afford the repayments.

however, having joint accounts is potentially bad news as that means there will be a financial link between you and they may check your credit record as well as his.
I would consider breaking those links.

Oh dear - is one a current account? With an overdraft facility (even if you don't use it)?

If so, then I agree with Clapton that you are probably financially associated and it's likely that any future lender will check both credit records.

Why not pay £2 each and get your credit records, so you can see how they look?
