I always do a trifle at xmas and soak the sponge in plenty of Harveys bristol cream but funds are tight this year and I was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative/own brand that will save me some money.
If not, I will do without the sherry but it won't be the same as my Nana always made it that way and I always remember her when I make it
(she used to 'feed' the sponges for days
I am sure as kids we were sloshed after her trifle :rotfl:)

Pretty much any medium or sweet sherry is ok in trifles.0

I agree with CFC on this - I like sherry at Christmas as a drink (only at Christmas!) and even as a drink I'm very happy with Aldi's cream sherry. It's Caversham Cream Sherry, 75cl for £4.89, and I'm sure it would be fine in your trifle. If you don't have access to Aldi, I see Sainsbury's do a 'Sweet Rich Cream Sherry' which I'm sure would be just the ticket too, at £5 for 75cl.Life is mainly froth and bubble

How about ginger wine as an alternative?0

Hi, my mum & dad always buy their sherry from Aldi - it's quite drinkable, so will be fine in a triffle xI must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0
