Help - received a Wonga letter but don't have a loan
Hello,
I hope someone here can help us - we have a weird problem:
1 week or so ago we received a letter to our home address but in the name of a woman (Ms KH) who doesn't live here, and certainly hasn't for at least 10 years (while we've owned the house) and a couple of years before that (we knew the previous owners). We've never had any other post for this woman and don't recognise the name.
We wrote "Undelivered, not known at this address" on the envelope and posted it.
Yesterday we received a second letter identical to the first and my wife opened it.
It's from Wonga.com Collections Department (although the return address is PO Box 8743, Bellshill, ML4 3WU) and says that Ms KH took out a loan for £300 and now owes £360.
No what concerns me is that although it is not in our names the loan does seem to be against our home address and I'm worried this could adversely affect our credit score.
My wife tried to speak to someone at Wonga without success (goodness knows what 5 mins on the 0844 number cost) and I don't know what to try next.
So, wise MSE forum-dwellers, can you help please? What can you advise? What should we do?
Looking forward to your suggestions,
Paul

Just keep returning the post 'return to sender not at this address'. Credit is registered against the person and not the property and therefore this will have no effect on anyone living at your address.
The person may not have actually used your address to apply for credit. If they have tried to trace this person the tracing tools they have used may have thrown up this address in error. Dont worry about it, nothing adverse can occur against you or your property because of it.0 -
Been a few cases of Wonga getting incorrect data from CRA's when they have been chasing bad debtors...0

just keep sending them back mate, and dont worry about your rating, it will be fine!0

If the loan was not taken out in your name then it should not at any point effect your credit rating/file.
Most you can really do is return the post.
It may seem like it's your problem and it's hard not to worry, but in reality it's not your responsibility to correct Wonga's useless checking of identity and addresses on people they choose to lend to.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If the letter isn't addressed to you then don't open it. Just return it with 'not known at this address' as you did with the first one.0

The loan is not against your home address as you seem to think. The letters are only coming to the address because it is the last address that they have for the borrower. Just keep sending them back with the same message.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I have exactly the same problem. Sooomeon has used our address o get a Wonga loan. I contacted them by email. Wonga emailed me asking me back asking me to ring them to sort it out but as it is their problem not mine I am not going to pay on an 0844 phone bill no for them to reep the charge money.
Although you say it wont go against your credit rating, my husband works for a bank and when they employ someone they check that there have been no bad debts at the address the person is living at so it does need to get sorted.
I have emailed wonga asking that they tell me what proof of residence the person using our address gave but they just send an automated response asking me to phone them to resolve the issuse. I have given them my phone no 5 times now.
We have lived in our house for 20 years and no one of the name on the laon has ever lived here.
Wonga sort your act out!0 -
Just joined this site to see if there was anything on this company as i received 2 letters yesterday about loans in my name and to my address, it appears i have been the victim of id fraud, they took a loan of £495.50 on the 17th Dec and then the same again 2 days later. I received another letter today with a higher rate of interest and charges which i have yet to contact them about. I have a number which gets through to their fraud department, not sure if it is ok to post it here, and the number for the police national fraud squad to whom i also reported it. They are now investigating the matter and i am considering sending a bill for my time and expenses in dealing with their mess, their checking system would appear to be a farce as some of my personal details were incorrect and they have allowed at least 2 loans within a matter of days!

type Wonga into the search box and should be some mobile safe numbers to ring.

BBC Watchdog have also done a couple of pieces on problems like this with Wonga.
I'm sure they would be interested to hear that Wonga still haven't sorted out their act.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
