Hi all. I've had a shocking weekend.
DH has smashed my car up and ripped off the (electric) wing mirror and buckled the drivers door so you can't open it. Ouch. I hoped to claim it off the insurance but for some STUPID reason I haven't got protected no claims discount this year. So I've been to the garage and asked how much guvner? I'm going to be looking at £500+ and the exhaust's kaput.
I've had to drive DH's grungy car today and it has no wing mirrors because some little shmuck ripped them off:mad: . I managed to get them put back on today but have no glass in the drivers side mirror. I toddled off to the astra garage and they said it's going to be £45 for new glass and the backing plate.
I've been to Halfords and got the replacement glass for £6.49 and have searched ebay for a wing mirror. So hopefully I will be able to get one from there.

I spoke to DH about all of this and said that there was no way that the mortgage overpayments were going to suffer from this but he's going to have to wait for longer for his money to be repaid. I'm just really down because money is flying away from me faster than I can count it this month.
I am on track mortgage wise but have no idea how badly everything else is going. The only consolation really is that he's going to have to cycle to work for a little while which will save some petrol money (and rid him of his spare tyre!)
One thing's for sure though- I'm damned if I'm going to be the only one who suffers because of this. He's going to have to cut his money down by £10 a month and lose his easy news subscription. I suppose that this is quite harsh but it's the only way he will learn- I'm the one who always has to sort these things out when he drives into stuff and it doesn't inconvenience him at all. I have to rejig the budget to pay for damage and he meanders on regardless. Sorry for wingeing guys, just had a gutsfull of today!

We all need to let off steam, Kaz. Hope you feel a bit better for banging away at your keyboard. Stick to your guns...and i'm sure the cycling will be good for him. Hope he wasn't hurt in the accident.

Well done Wisewoman you are our inspiration.
Sorry to hear about the car Kaz at least it looks like you can get some cheap parts.

I have changed my 1st post on here to show a list of all who want to PM me their totals. I thought we could do this every 2 or 3 months so have a look and tell me what you think. I am happy to change it if you have any idea on how we can make it better. I dont want it to be a competition between ourselves it is just meant as an motivation especially the total figures for us all.

Look forward to see what you think.

Thanks to TYAE and Kaz for the update I have now put you on the list on the 2nd post.

    Hi
This is the first time I have posted so if I have done anything incorrect please let me know.
    Can I please join? :D

My aim is to get my mortgage term reduced so that we can start to think about having a family.

Mortgage term 24 years and 6 months
Total repayment mortgage left to be repaid- £82,558.12

I am intending to overpay on my mortgage as much as my I can.

This is a great idea, thanks to dd for starting the thread.
Well done to everyone so far who has took the plunge!:T

Wisewoman-_party_ Congratulations and well done- I would have thought the paper would have been a bit plusher too- only plain old A4 for paying them interest for half a lifetime? Cheek of it- maybe people only get posh paper if they've been mug enough to go the full 25yrs on SVR?

Kaz- hope things get better soon-I'd be really angry with DH- shame he didn't do it to his own car.:p

My piece of luck this week is winning £67 on the lottery last week, but didn't realise it until last night- DH says it has to go into the holiday savings fund, but hopefully some of that will be left over and end up in the overpayment fund.

note to self-must stay away from the expensive maple syrup in pretty bottles on holiday this year.:o

Ahh, the £2 coins are my savings for a holiday at the mo - DSs football club want to take them to play in an under 12s tournement next year, and if i want to go (and DD) we have to pay for ourselves, so thats what they are for!!! Means i can keep the holiday and the mortgage seperate!!! Mind you, once the holiday is over - a bit extra for the mortgage!!!!
  • My ulimate goal is to pay off my mortgage as quickly as possible and get that pension fund growing. If that can be done in three years I will be well chuffed!!! I'm not sure how realistic this is though. There's going to have to be some very nifty tricks to get this one done. I'M WILLING TO GIVE IT A GO.

My mortgage is £76,000 and my current term is 10 years. I am already overpaying by £180 per month and a financial advisor has told me that I should be paying into a pension fund and not putting any more cash into my mortgage. I am 35 and 3 quarters (I feel like Adrian Mole saying that!!!) and I have reasonably large bills outgoings. Sky TV, Council Tax, Electric, Gas, etc, etc, ...

I also have a few extra pounds coming in from a temporary lodger but I'm not sure how long this will last. For this reason I really cannot count it as extra income but I am saving it for house repairs and such like.

To complete the picture I have no other debts. I've recently changed electric and gas and I'm waiting for that to go through and I've just requested an Egg credit card. I've just sold some shares (£5,000) and I'm considering what to do with the money. More shares, mortgage, house repairs, etc, etc, ...

So this pretty much gives my current situation and my aim.

    WHAT DO I DO NOW?
WHERE DO THE TIPS COME FROM?
DO I REPORT BACK AND HOW?

Is this what this post is all about?
