My Fiance and I have been having a chat....
We aimed to pay £2,500 off our mortgage during the 3 years of the challenge.
So far we have less than £500 to go to complete this! :)

And so we have now decided we shall not be making any overpayments until next year.

The reason for this is that we will be getting married next April and we will only have £3,000 for everything including the honeymoon! So all the money we make on Quidco, car boots, etc we will be putting to one side for our wedding instead of the mortgage.
Sorry that we have sort of pulled out for a while, but I promise to still be checking in on how everybody else is doing and I will still give updates even though we will only be making our normal monthly repayments.
And I also promise that next May we will be back to making overpyamnets with a vengeance!!! :D

  • Good luck with the wedding saving Dawnylou!! I got married 2 1/2 years ago and didn't want to scrimp too much on the big day - and have made up for it since, with a vengeance. Am sure you will do too!!

    Hi Guys

A MFi3 party sounds a great idea :D looking forward to it already.

Just need to correct you on DD/SO's
A Standing Order means YOU control what goes out when (I like to overpay, so even though my tracker rate drops, I keep my Standing Order at the same higher payment). SOs are paid on the date you set, whether they're weekdays, weekends or Bank Holidays (I think). If the payment date falls on a non working day (ie a Sat/Sun or Bank Hol) then payment will be made the following working day. You should also allow up to 4 working days for the funds to get through to the other end (usually gets there in 2 days but the bank standard will say allow 4)

A Direct Debit means THEY are in control - they choose when and how much (within the Direct Debit guarantee rules). DDs are taken on the date set or the next working day, i.e. not weekends or bank holidays - probably why one went on 3 Mar (Monday) rather than 1 Mar (Saturday).

So, in theory, you can replace a DD with an SO but you need to make sure the SO is always equal to or greater than what the DD would be, so you don't fall into arrears. Much easier in this era of falling interest rates, rather than rising ones. Also make sure that cleared funds are in your funding account no later than the day before payment is due

DD probably look like his avatar, TallGirl will be tall, of course!

Ailuro is short for ailurophile (big word for a cat lover) so I'm obviously thought of as a mad old moo that reeks of cat wee.

Desperate housewife- which one do you resemble? :rotfl:

I have just been super-brave or very stupid (not sure which) and managed to secure a 5-year fixed rate with Abbey (£200 fee) for 5.75% -

I do hope I have done the right thing!! Either way, I wouldn't have got this far without the support and inspiration of this amazing thread.
