  • ooh! forgot to say I did sell some things on ebay too this month to raise some cash, trouble is I keep seeing bargains while watching my auction! I must keep off hotdealsuk too as its very tempting on there too. Having said that I did bag a sat nav for hubby's birthday for £49.99 delivered which I would have bought anyway and probably spent more on :)

Worked out that I have made £220 on quidco since June last year too which is great as I don't buy much as a rule, I tend to apply for my stoozecards and bank accounts on there...good moneyspinner.

Oooo you have reminded me to check my quido earnings, am owed for my more than insurance purchase.

So over the last year what ideas have people had that have helped in your mortgage free in three goal and do you have any new ideas to share for the next two years?

Are there any things you tried that you felt were too time consuming/too little gain to be worthwhile or was there something that you thought 'ah that was easier than expected' let's see if we can have a renewed push for the start of year 2 :)

  • Thanks AnW'sMum, I would add the following:

    -cook from scratch
    -packed lunches
-stop takeaways and use slow cooker
    -definitely budget
-pigsback (I haven't bought toiletries with cash for ages...even the dog has a pigsback account in this house!)
    -stoozing
    -make my own bread
-don't throw any food away, try to use it up
    -sell things on ebay

    -Don't forget to enjoy yourself!

Can't think of anything else but will post if I do. :)

I'm guilty of overbuying too, so when the freezer gets full we have a week or so of meals planned from the freezer.

DH gets a choice of chicken curry, pasta, or pasta with chicken some nights. I don't do curried pasta, though, so he can be thankful for small mercies.:p

I wouldn't want that either after working physically hard for 12 hour shift, but he's wholeheartedly on board with the mfi3 now, he has even decided to postpone some work on the house until after the mortgage is paid off.:A

He didn't believe at first we could do it. I wasn't 100% either- but when me and DH are nearly halfway there after just one year, it's hard to believe we WONT make it now!

We did put some money in our ISA this week, as we're hoping to add in another trip to see REM if we can get the tickets, so it's not in the MF fund just yet.

The only thing in the world to keep me from putting money in the mortgage is going to see REM:D

I've been saving loads since I started taking a packed lunch to work. It's not just the cost of the butties, it's the extras like a bag of crisps, Starbucks coffee and then a bit of shopping while I'm in town buying lunch.

We've really cut down on our takeaways too, especially since we (me and Mrs Dither) started going to circuit training at the gym. The thought of all the effort in the gym wasted by noshing down a Chinese or Indian meal is enough to put us off. It saves a fortune. Plus Mrs Dither has started making curries from scratch and they're lovely (and much healthier without all that ghee).

Just spotted the REM reference - when are you going to see them ailuro2? They're my favourite band - best concert ever was the Monster Tour at Huddersfield footie ground.

We're flying down to see them play the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff in August, we hung off on T in the park tickets (just down the road from us!) because we were praying they'd do an indoor gig.

None of the gigs are indoors, though, so we're gutted.

MAy still find a couple of Sunday tickets for T in the park.

The best gig I saw was in a tent on Glasgow Green, to make up for the one they had to cancel in the SECC. Fantastic to be standing with fellow REM fans, not people who are there for the beer like Tin the park, and the Loch Lomond gig they did (that was a rotten crowd:mad:)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though!!

New album out on 1st April though, the previews are sounding really good.:j

Yep, I can't wait for the new album. At Huddersfield we were about a third of the way from the front, it threw it down for about 10 mins and then the summer sun baked us all alive. Luckily, when they came on there was a huge surge forward and we managed to ride it out and ended right at the front and so we got plenty of cups of water from security.

We went to see Kate Nash at the Manchester Apollo last week - a whole different concert experience! lol.

    hi all

i have recently had a name change - mainly because my old username was too recognisable by the folk from the 'real' rather than virtual world - but i will update and change my details with tallgirl

i think it is a great time to think about what has helped us on our way in this challenge DH.

i have made somewhere between £3-400 from quidco - including buying things from ebay.

i also sell what is no longer loved or required on ebay, and it is amazing what will sell.

i also use a lot of money-off coupons off my shopping in asda and tescos - i always save a minimum of 10% off my bill.

cashback credit card, pigsback (not as good as it once was), batch cooking, taking lunches to work etc.

but also, not buying things i don't need and stocking up on bargains, whether it be food, toiletries or stuff for presents.

i know how you feel DH, but i also hate running out of something an having to pay full price for it:eek: - today i snaffled 8 packs of organic beef stock cubes for 25p each.

i found that a slow stooze didn't work for me and i can't be bothered with anything other than quidco. am very hit and miss on daily clicks too.
  • Hi Firesidemaid, I have a cashback credit card too (forgot that) and use it instead of paying cash, always pay off the balance at the end of the month though. Yes, I agree, pigsback is not as good as it was but I still do it.

I too collect the coupons to use in Asda and find that the freebie thread is good for sending off for samples as they come with money off coupons.

It might seem like peanuts to some people but I watch the pennies and it soon adds up.

Well done on the stock cube bargain!
