Why not give this a try? It may seem like mumbo jumbo, but it seems to be working for me so far! Have any of you thought about Cosmic Ordering - bit of a self help technique me thinks - but just by writing it down it seems to really help you reach your goals. Write something along the lines of the below (yes, I felt a total twit doing it too...). Basic rules are you must spell it out clearly and put a date you want to achieve it by, you get to choose 6 things and it can take a good few months to start working, then keep it somewhere safe....
Dear Cosmos
Please accept my request for the following orders by the dates specified:1. To pay off my mortgage by April 2010
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
With love and appreciation I submit my orders to the universe
I know it sounds a bit daft, but my No 1 wish is happening right now!!! Next I asked to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary in style and believe it or not I now seem to keep getting nice little monetary surprises. The last one at the weekend from a company that realised we'd overpaid £50 in 2006!
You've probably got me down as some sort of fruitcake, but I think anything is worth a try if you want to succeed.
Good luck!!!

Dear MLC,
Nope - don't think you're a fruitcake at all
It's a great idea. There are several variants on the theme, one being the letter to yourself dated Feb 2010 (or whatever) or a letter to a friend (forward dated again) giving an update of stuff (which naturally includes all the good things that have happened to you).
Just by writing it down, you clarify it and your mind takes it on board as a possibility. Of course, you do need to be fairly realistic in your aims

Cosmic ordering is what Noel Edmunds did when his wife left him, and he ended up with new hit shows and a glamourous girlfriend!!!0

Try to keep smiling, dawnylou. I spent five months off sick last year, so can emapthise. Can you recite the entire daytime schedule for all the freeview channels yet?! And still there's nothing interesting to watch.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0

Trying to be good - that's about how long I have been off now too
I can't recite the schedule as I never even put the TV on!! lol
Fiance comes in on a night and puts it on and we usually settle down to watch a programme together, but I just don't bother through the day as it is all those shows like Jeremy Kyle etc where people are always shouting and causing a ruckus and I can't be bothered with it or the news which just reminds me what a terrible world we live on.
If I can be bothered with anything it is usually MSE! lolDream of being mortgage free....

came very close at the weekend to doubling my mortgage and buy a new house that we fell for.
we came home, placed the offer, sorted out the m'gage, solicitor, estate agents etc and looking for carpets!!
the very next day, our current mortgage payment was taken via DD, and the standard overpayment. We are with Intellignet finance, and it tells you by how many months/years your term has been reduced and how much interest you have saved every month.
looking at the new figure last night, we were reminded of what we REALLY want, which is to end our mortgage debt and not increase it.
today we withdrew our offer, and surprisingly we actually fell as though a weight has been lifted.
its amazing how things can run away with you, and how we can quickly be tempted.
we have found the running figure via our offsett mortgage of our savings a great motivator0
