DON'T use NTL!!!!

If you expect them, ( NTL) not to expect the money you agreed to pay them when signing the agreement , it is you that wishes to rip them off.
We must get out of the habit of thinking that we are Victims of large companies when really we just wnat to find someone to blame for our whims.
Otherwise the term "rip off" is being used that liberally it has no meaning. A bit like dyslexia .
There are plenty of genuine rip offs that we don't want to get mixed up with this sort of complaint.

i also signed up for the £30 package, considering that most broadband at the time was 17.99 a month add BT 10.50 line rental, it made sense for us to effectivelt get digital tv for a couple of quid extra, so for us it was good value for money (we hardly ever call out on landline, use skype).
When we got the box installed, the engineers were punctual and polite, and they put everything in no probs, and told me (quite rightly) that I need to install the software, so they talked me through it , very helpful.
We did get problems, because in our area they were preparing for on-demand and our box's firmware was out of date so after unsuccesfully reloading the box they replaced my box promply for a brand new one that is much more reliable.
I hear ntl are increasing broadband speed for free..im lookin into it!
also ntl one of the few who have free customer service number, and yes there is a wait but they are quite helpful.
Also i would say that its good of them to enable you to finish the contract if you can give them a new address and ntl has no service there, they are not obliged to do that...if you sign up for 12 months, they quite righty account the full £360 into their tax books and thats what you have signed up to pay. one little gripe with ntl is the picture quality quite ropey due to bit-rate but hey.....some ppl arent alowed dishes on the wall!Debt Free Since September 2005!

You could try terminating the contract for breach as the set top box clearly isn't fit for purpose. Might work.0

we have talk unlimited and unlimited broad band tlk unlimited 14 quid and interent for 9.99 so cant fault them for that!!
All the channels that you get are listed on the website so why didn't you compare them with freeview before signing up?0 -
yep we're with ntl as well and we like the package we're on, after the twelve months it was meant to go up to full price and we phoned and said we'd keep it at same introductory price or go elsewhere they agreed to keep it same for another 12 months. a friend was paying full price and when i told her to phone up she did and they agreed to same as us!
we had a problem at first though when they put it through neighbours path using their point (with their permission of course)because they couldnt install it properly waited a few months and loads of hassle on phone to them (no compensation and neighbours are now funny with us!!!!!) but eventually sorted it out however the cable service is great so we are happy now! good luck!0 -
I was added to the three for one deal a few months ago when I phoned up trying to get a better deal for myself.
However, I was most certainly not told that this would be for a minium of 12 months. I have not signed anything. Hearing all the above, I am rather anoyed that the minimum term was not explained to me.
If I do decide to go elsewhere, then NTL can stick their direct debit, and when the invetible happens, have a counter claim in the small claims court for misrepresentation.

Last year I had a lot of trouble with NTL they were charging me double for broadband 2x£24.99 when I noticed I phoned them asking them to sort it out.
No matter who I spoke to they promised it would be sorted, it went on for so long that I cancelled my direct debits, anyway to cut a long story short they cut me off, even though they owed me money!I persuaded them to put me back on. The argument went on for a couple of months, I even wrote a letters to the high and mighty (got no replies). They even threatened me with bailiffs. After a lot of hastle and loads of phone calls they eventually sorted it out and gave me 3 months free broadband but I refuse to pay by direct debit now as they seem to take what they want. When you talk to them on the phone they treat you like an imbocile.

We have been with NtL for 2 years no real problems till december they sent us a bill for 3 months broadband then followwed with a letter advising to only pay 2 months. we expected this as they informed us in october the billing system for broadband would eb changed to forward charging not backward charging like there other services. IE In january you pay Fab`s broadband previousely it had been end of Jan pays Jan`s broadbandIf it doesnt pay rent sell it.

A bit off topic... kind of, but everyone said that when it was stated that the contract was 12 months with a notice period of 30 days that obviously meant it was tied in for 12 months and a 30 day notice period after that time.
I disagree, it's not obvious, as a landlord, I have a tenant who has signed a six month contract with a one month notice. That means that within the 6 months of the contract either party can terminate with a notice of one month. The notice period is a condition of the contract.
I assume that "as a landlord" you are talking about an Assured Shorthold tenancy. In fact the contract is very clearly for a minimum of six months, with a 30-day notice period after that.0 -
I'm afraid that I have very little that's good to say about NTL - my boyfriend had the same package. Then after a while the problems started - 5 set top boxes (which I am informed by one of their chaps that come out are recycled about 12 times) within 3 months, broadband going down for days with Indian call centres telling him there was nothing wrong (and he's a IT guy), the customer "services" agreeing refund for loss of service, only to have the telephone cut off for non-payment as (surprise surprise) CS didn't tell anyone else.... I could go on.
The box has gone and be replaced by an Aldi freeview which is far more reliable, and as soon as another adequate broadband service comes into the area - that's going too.... it seems to me that once you get on a loop of bad service with this lot, there aint no stopping them! Oh, and I can't forget that anything credited to your account is done two months in arrears....... lovely..... :j0
