I've tried to change to the bundle of call features for £3.50/month as advertised on NTL's website [I was paying the same price for just 2 features]. Have spoken to 4 different people at NTL and have been given conflicting information about what is available to me and which features are compatible. They do not even seem to know about the call reminder feature advertised on their website and were offering another feature which they could not explain! Also I have a problem with the call divert feature now set up on my phone and customer services decided it was technical so passed me on to Wales [wrong], thay passed me back to another techical no. who said it should be dealt with by customer services after all! The final person told me what to key into my phone to resolve my problem and surprise it hasn't worked. Obviously each time I'm being passed around I have to wait in a queue.
I should have just stuck with what I had!

    Hi,

A bit off topic... kind of, but everyone said that when it was stated that the contract was 12 months with a notice period of 30 days that obviously meant it was tied in for 12 months and a 30 day notice period after that time.

I disagree, it's not obvious, as a landlord, I have a tenant who has signed a six month contract with a one month notice. That means that within the 6 months of the contract either party can terminate with a notice of one month. The notice period is a condition of the contract.

In NTLs case, from what they have said, at the end of 12 months they should be asking for another contract to be signed as the contract is only 12 months. Its the same with mobile phones, they talk about contracts when they actually mean tie in period. Confusing if its not something you have dealt with before.

(Previously I was with Telewest, which was also 12 months and cancel with 1 months notice.)

which was also a [/b]minimum of 12 months and 1 months notice

so two times you have entered into a contract believing it to be something it's not... somehow i don't think the fault lies with the cable companies

I don't know the exact wording of NTL t&c's but sky's is...

"the minimum subscription is 12 months"

With sky you can reduce the package within 12 months as long as you keep going in some form for 12 months.

I'm not surprised at NTL's perceived bad reputation when they have customers like the OP who cannot understand basic concepts such as the fact that signing a "12-month contract" will tie you in to paying for 12 months. Hello...?

NTL may consider it Libellous to say you have been "stung".

Tonys mentioned cancelling a direct debit.!

Are people aware of the law regarding doing this,( and stopping cheques too)
    There are very few defences.

NTL hold the mandate for the direct debit.

    Hope this is of interest.

Cancelling a cheque is different to cancelling a DD. A cheque is a *promise* to pay and cancelling can be taken as fraud.

Paying by DD is an *agreement* how to pay. You can cancel a DD at any time BUT if you have a contract that commits you to paying you still have to pay in some way. Some contracts say you must pay by DD. You can still cancel in these circumstances but you might be penalised. IE powergen on line must be paid by DD but you can cancel and they will put you on their standard (higher) tarif.

In this instance with NTL. You could cancel the DD but you have a contract and would need to pay by some other method. So cancelling the DD does nothing in this case.

  • Were with ntl and signed up for digital and talk unlimited most of the channels are what you can get on free view any way! we told them to come and pick the digital box up the next day because it wasnt worth it. apparently if you cancel a service you have to pay for the remainder of the years subscription untill the rest of the 12months is up, so you dont have the service but have to pay any way, what a rip off!
we have talk unlimited and unlimited broad band tlk unlimited 14 quid and interent for 9.99 so cant fault them for that!!
