My mum wanted a duck this year and so much cheaper than Turkeys, looked everywhere for one...eventually found decent priced ones in Iceland about £6 for famillies on a budget

How much did they weigh as in Aldi and Lidl, I think they were 2.4kg at £6.99. I think in Asda (correct me if I'm wrong, somebody) they were only 2kg or less at around similar price. and these were all frozen. You won't find fresh this cheap, they're usually around £9 or so, and generally on offer by the likes of Sainsbury's.0

!!!!!!. If things are that bad you can get 6 chicken burgers for £3 in Asda.0

we had duck one year very nice but it doesn't half shrink once cooked, we couldn't quite work out why??? tasty though, just have some spare chipolatas to hand!!! Emphasise that it's the quality not quantity!!0

If it shrank that much you overcooked it. I find fresh duck from sainsbury once cooked will easily cut up with sharp knife /scissors into 3 portions with bones in. I do the 2 legs and the top bit. Seems to be fairly equal in size. Served with chip sausages and my homemade stuffing - comprising sausage meat/breadcrumbs /onion diced/salt pepper/ parsley/celery 2 stalks diced. The celery adds moistness to the stuffing and I bind it with a little olive oil. Stuff bird in main cavity and under top end flap. I do not like sweet fruity sauces with duck, so I use the fat from duck pan to make a proper roux sauce and some stock from giblets or if none of those a veg stock cube. Everyone who has ever eaten it has said it so much better than one with a fruity sauce. Oh and !!!!! duck skin all over with fork and salt it well.0
