Never really cooked this before, hoping some nice experts can advise.
:o
For off the bone ham, are you supposed to take off the stretchy netting before boiling the ham?
How about when doing the glaze bit in the oven? I'd imagine it would make everything fall to bits if I tried removing at this stage or look really ugly if left on.

It was Nigella's Cherry Coke one I was going to try but none of the ham recipes actually tell you what to do about the elastic net bit..:p0

Ummmm....take the net off I think? Does it have string under the net? I made Nigella's cola ham yesterday and I left the string on while it boiled but took it off when it went in the oven.... I can't remember if my gammon had a net (?) but if it did I took it off right at the beginning!
It's yummy0 -
Nope it was standard one from Tesco with just the stretchy net.
Did it (ham) fall to bits when you took it off post boiling?0 -
I usually leave the net on then remove after cooking so it all stays together. If your cooking it uncovered at the end i'd remove it before then, otherwise its trickier to remove0

I keep the plastic bit on while boiling then take it off and trim the fat before roasting. Always buy the tesco one and has never fallen apart.0

Luckily we have a gammon and coke thread. I tried it once - it wasn't to my taste really. A bit odd....!
This thread has loads of previous discussion, and yes, you take the net out
the only time gammon has ever fallen apart was when i slow cooked it and even then, it's quite hardy
let us know how you get on and ill merge this later
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
