Hi there
You don't say what your previous job is or your location. However I hope that these links below might help you. I know that the nhs for example is always looking for cleaners. And you have to be prepared to work shifts for all of them. If you wish you could start another thread on here, and post up your cv and ask for help. I know there are people on here who look at cv's for a living and can offer you advice.

If you PM me, I will send you my email address and re-vamp your CV. You're welcome to leave out all the personal stuff and add it yourself. I do this professionally and charge £20 for it, but am happy to do it for free for fellow DFW's, and have done it for a coupla people on here. I also can do career advice, if it would help?0

Justa thought - as your background is in finance is it worth putting cards in local newsagents etc. to see if anyone wants help on a part time basis with their personal or small business accounts?0

Schools are looking for invigilators for the current exam season. Might be worth giving a few of them a call as they don't generally advertise?

Hiya.. I just wanted to say that I do sympathise with you... My job ends on Friday (it was a contract job) and I've been searching for another one for the last few months and to my utter dismay haven't been able to find anything else.. I put on post on one of the other forums and was shocked at how little help there would be. I went along to a temp agency on Thursday and have hopefully (security clearance allowing) secured a temp role which starts on Monday. Admittedly the salary is less than £9 per hour and I'm currently earning £35k per year but I figured that it was better money than claiming benefits... I'm going to have to try and make up the shortfall somehow - not sure how my credit card companies are going to deem this but guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it  ... And I can totally relate to how you feel, my worst day for crying was yesterday and for some reason 4.30am is my worrying time! Oh what I would do for a good nights sleep!Light Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0

What sort of skills/qualifications do you have? As it's coming up to exam season, plenty of parents will pay for tutors for their kids taking GCSE/A levels to help with their weaker subjects - if you're good at maths/science/languages etc it might be worth putting up cards in local shops advertising this as even a few quid a week would help right now.
If you're applying for a stop-gap job, that's lower paid that what you're worth, remember you can always 'forget' to put certain qualifications on the application and down-play the level of responsibility you had before.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind replies and suggestions.
After another sleepless night I got up this morning and wrote a letter to the Head of College complaining about the aggressive nature of the debt collection department, I am hoping they will retract their claim for tuition fees as I did not attend and they are essentially asking me to pay a huge amount of money for the simple act of putting my signature on a piece of paper. I also sent copies of my correspondence with the debt collection department. If that does not work I will make enquiries to find out if there are any press/media who will highlight my situation. I love the suggestion of parading outside the Uni with a loud speaker and placard tomterm8, that is very funny and I got a much-needed laugh from that! Unfortunatly the Uni is in London and I am now in Manchester, though they are a very well known college and I am sure they would hate to get any bad publicity.
You are a wonderful bunch of people with a very creative approach to job hunting, thanks for all the suggestions I will definatly try the methods suggested.
joeblack066, thank you for the very kind offer, I will pm you about my cv, and would welcome any career advise you are able to give.
St0lli, well done for getting another job, ok its less money than you are used to but at least you have some breathing spaceto find something more suitable. Good luck!
My education is in design, and I have had a varied working background, but would say that the majority is administrative. I hope to discuss this with joeblack066.
The spare room is a definate option, I am currently shorlisted for a job which involves working from home and requires a dedicated room. If it falls through I will look into renting the room out, though it is a very small single in a very small terrace, perhaps it would be better if I moved into the little bedroom and rented out my main bedroom instead.
Thanks for the suggestion about insurance TheAble, I have realised through this site that I am paying more than necessary and am going to cancel the contents insurance and change my buildings insurance.
I am also selling everything I can find on e-bay!
My situation is not quite desperate at the moment as if I can get the uni to forget the (supposed) debt, and raise enough to pay at least some of the mortgage I will be able to reduce some of the stress. I was told by national debtline that the mortgage company will only start proceedings once I am 3 full monthly payments in arreers, so as long as I keep communicating with them and paying as much as I can scrape together, I can delay action against me.
Thank you all for your support, I really do appreciate it.
