We have appt with Barclays in the new year to open an account and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how long it takes from initial appt to the account being open.

My experience earlier this year.
For the Barclays basic cashcard account, you apply in branch and it is then sent off to be checked. You should know within a week and if successful should receive the card and PIN within another week!!!

My experience, of opening a standard account with HSBC, is the same as madison-nyc.
Went in with ID, asked to open an account, and came out with Account Number and Sort Code.0 -
A standard account with Natwest took 17 days to open whereas a Co-Op standard account was open and running within the day. I only had to wait another 3 days for the Co-Op debit card to arrive. All told, I wasnt terribly impressed with Natwest and did indeed mention it to customer services. They suprised me with a credit of £25 into my new account with them...so, wasnt all bad really.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

I opened my Natwest account on line a few years ago. I wasn't asked for any id and didn't have to go into a branch so I guess everything was checked on line.
Everything arrived about 7-10 days later.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
