Help needed I need a Laptop

Please help me because I have looked so much and am so confused :(

I want to buy my teenage son a laptop for Christmas budget £300 ish, he needs it for school work and all the usual teenage stuff you tubes, games but no bigtime gaming as he has an xbox and social networks.

I want something decent that will last him, any advice would be great. Thanks :)

  • With a budget of around £300, and if you're wanting something of decent quality and that will last, I would recommend thinking about getting a refurbished laptop. That means that there may have been some fault with the laptop when it was new, but the manufacturer has fixed it and is now selling it again - but much cheaper than it would normally be!

These laptops are actually totally fine, they just can't sell them full price for obvious reasons. You can get some great deals this way - check out PC World and you can find decent refurbed Toshibas for example for about £300.

Brand wise, I have mainly used Toshiba and Dell and been really happy with both. If you go for something with a smallish hard drive (e.g. 4GB) you can always pick up an external hard drive at some point if your son needs more space.

    Hope this is helpful :)

Avoid Toshiba Satellites - they can go wonky.

Mine is now the subject of a court claim. They can suffer from deep rooted inherent faults, mainly associated with battery/charging problems and the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface). Cnet have some relevant threads as do Toshiba, and here's a couple of examples:

  • The Lenovo I bought a year ago for around £300 on ebay (£330 without the voucher I luckily got just at the right time) is just as fast as when new. I'm very pleased with it. Sound is great, keyboard excellent - just a really well made laptop.

I have an HP - they have lots of different prices available, so I'd say it's worth checking out they're website. I love it :)
