Can anyone recommend a whitening toothpaste- this is to help maintain tooth whiteness after using whitening trays
Had a look in Boots today but need a Which? report I think - there are so many and such varying prices. I don't want one that is too abrasive obviously
I know there is one thats been advertised recently called Oral B 3D white brilliance toothpaste but dont know if any good.
Has anyone had a recommendation from dentist or hygienist perhaps? Just seen mine and completely forgot to ask
Toothsmith - if you read this, any thoughts ?

from what i read on different forums, its much the same really and will only take your teeth a couple of shades lighter if that.
i suppose the best way is go with a cheap one and work to more expensive ones to see what suits you.0 -
Whitening toothpaste on a really good day might be able to reduce staining a bit, thus making teeth look a little whiter - but they will never actually change the colour of the teeth.
One or two of them might 'work' by being a lot more abrasive than they really should (this is often the case with 'smokers' toothpastes and even some of the dearer 'beauty' ones)
Basically, they're just there because someone has noticed that if you put 'whitening' on a tube, then X% of people will buy it instead of a 'normal' toothpaste and at the end of the day, toothpaste manufacturers want to sell toothpaste.
The thing you should be looking for in a toothpaste is ^1250ppm of fluoride. That is the stuff that will actually do some good.
Avoid too much stuff that stains your teeth, brush your teeth well, both with a brush and interdental aids (brushes or floss depending on the size of your gaps) pay for regular hygienist appointments, use a decent regular toothpaste and if you smoke DON'T! (or stop worrying about your teeth, 'cos you won't have them that long!)How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Absolute tosh unless you go to very high doses!
Virtually every substance that has an effect on the body has 'therapeutic' doses and toxic doses.
This is true of fluoride. There are quantities which have benefit, and there are quantities that will kill you.
It is also true of water, and practically anything you can think of.How to find a dentist.

Tooth smith does using bit carbonate soda sprinkled on toothpaste wok or another old wives tale?!0
-
all bicarbonate of soda does is work as an abrasive. It may grind stains off but won't whiten teeth. No toothpaste will whiten ,all they do is abrade stains away. So your teeth might look lighter if they have alot of staining but otherwise will look no different.0

Thank you0

Another old wives tale rubbing salt on your teeth is supposed to make them whiter never yet tried this as I am not a lover of salt0
