Employment as a mortgage adviser

:question:Hi,

I'm currently working in an insurance sales role and looking for a change into mortgage advising...

I have been a trainee 3 times in my career already and hope to avoid this route for a 4th time if i can.

At the moment, I understand that a ceMAP qualification is essential, and am more than happy to take modules 1,2 and 3.

I suppose my questions are:

1. Can anyone give me the best advice on how to proceed with taking the exams. i.e Are the home study courses the same as an 8 day intensive course? And which companies' courses are considered the best?

2. Would i still end up in a trainee role having completed all the modules as experience is always important, or have i shot myself in the foot as my employer would've happily covered the costs for me.

3. Are there any mortgage advisors out there that can give me all the pitfalls of this career choice? (Sorry, but being an insurance man, the worst-case scenario makes me feel comfortable!!!)

Thanks for your help,
Rob

  • It really depends on how dedicated you are, how you are with studying under your own steam, etc, whether a week long course will actually help you.

You will still be in a trainee role since the FSA requires that you undergo the training to Competent Adviser Status before you can advise on your own.

I have sent you a pm
  • Thank you for your reply, dedication and being pro-active wouldn't be a problem.
As with my career choice, i'm looking for a career that has long-term financial prospects.. Are you a mortgage advisor yourself? And do you recommend it?
  • p.s what is a pm? i'm new to this, sorry...

I have just completed my CeMap exams and I start on Monday 30th as a Mortgage Adviser Trainee.

So far yes I can highly recommend it.
