Was planning on putting a photo of the kids in with a box of biccies for great aunts, grans etc but mil commented that they'd received them the last few years and have loads of photos of them lol.
So what could we do as a little minder from the children to give at christmas, any ideas?
Thanks.

what i did one year was get some plant pots and either get the kids to paint them or just tie a ribbon around them, then got some lollipop sticks and stuck wrapped sweets to them so they looked like flowers and you can either push them into something like oasis or polystyrene. I then stuffed some tissue paper in it to cover up the oasis. Grandparents loved them and things like quality street is so cheap at this time of year, Another bonus kept the kids quite for a little while0

This year I am giving some gifts from DS who is one. For my dad, mum, brother and great-grandparents, I got some photo keyrings printed of a picture of them and DS together. Thought it was a little different and more "keepsakey" than pictures which I admit I've given too!
For my mum I have done salt dough foot and hand print which was incredibly easy as salt dough is easier than breathing :rotfl: and I've put that in a gift box with tissue paper as well as two little charms that cost me £10 for both and they're both relevant to DS. A sun because she calls him "her sunshine" and a starfish to represent the little holiday (DS first holiday) we went on with her in the summer. Got them from The Charm Works online.
I know in Clintons (and elsewhere, I can't think where I've seen them) they do the bars of chocolate with 'World's Best Uncle' on etc. How about those little 'credit card' things with Nan/Grandad poems on. Could you not make up a little gift box/bag for each? For instance for their Grandad, Grandad socks, miniatures of his fave drink (or bottle of his fave beer), some chocolates, Grandad keyring/mug those sorts of things. Card Factory is good for those things and very cheap.
If you had more time you could go down the memory box/jar route (little keepsakes and memories inside).
I'm sure I'll think of more as the day goes on. It's not 9am yet and I need at least three coffees before I become creative! :rotfl::T Mummy to 1. Devoted wife. Christmas addict! Life lover. Thrifter & Crafter. OU Student :T0 -
does MIL know for sure that they wont be hoping for the same this year though?
no matter what we got MIL (who lived 300 miles away) the photos were what she looked forward to most
children change so much, she liked to sit and look at their progress (despite seeing them 3 or 4 times a year)
in our family if you do something more than once it suddenly becomes "tradition"!:D0 -
Children change every year! Photos are a lovely present, I think your MIL is underestimating how much they would be appreciated. Personally, I think craft items made by children are something nobody really likes & are just polite about!0

Maybe you could have them tape a short video message? Just marry Christmas, we love you, and this is what we've been doing lately. It's like a picture and a time capsule....which probably isn't helpful since you didn't want to do pictures. I really think pictures are great gifts though.0

I am planning on doing mini canvas of the kids hand and foot prints either side of a picture of them.0
