Another warning about 'Shopper Discounts & Rewards'

Judging by the amount of posts on this site as well as other internet traffic, these characters are still at it: I used the W H Smith website to order some books recently. After paying, I was encouraged by the site to apply for a £15 cash back voucher. Thinking that the offer came from the W H Smith site, I accepted the offer. I later received a welcome e-mail from ‘Shopper Discounts & Rewards’ followed by another inviting me to browse their list of online saver offers. Only after I’d noticed that the words ‘W H Smith’ were nowhere to be found did I check my ‘member profile’. I discovered that W H Smith appeared to have provided my W H Smith log in details as well as my debit card details to this company. Not only that but I was to be charged £10 monthly for the dubious privilege of belonging to this outfit. A visit to the Shopper Discounts & Rewards ‘Community Section’ of their site was very illuminating - under ‘How did I join’ were 830 posts from dissatisfied customers and a 98% ‘negative’ rating on the page itself. Most customers appear to have been paying out £10 a month to this company and been unaware of it. I certainly do not recall signing up for this but have to say that it’s possible that when accepting the original offer on the W H Smith site that the terms and conditions could well have been less than obviously displayed. After visiting the Shopper Discounts & Rewards site, I discovered that it was possible to cancel my membership by following these steps: Log in using your (W H Smith or other) password – Customer Care – FAQ – How do I cancel my membership. Once cancelled they sent me a confirmation e-mail. Fortunately for me, I noticed this scam fairly quickly and was able to pin down my unwanted membership to having used the W H Smith site, who appear to be less than attentive when allowing third party websites to tout for business on their own site.I'm still waiting for a response to this from W H Smith themselves.
