Hi, I'm a newbie, just found this great looking site by accident & had to register. I'm in serious debt, gradually slipped 55k into debt whilst married. didn't think things were anywhere near as bad as they were until we split up & most of the debt was in my name.
I'm on my second month of a DMP with CCCS who, seem great. I chose them because they don't take any extra charges off you and hopefully my debt will be paid off sooner.
At the moment I'm being flooded with calls from my creditors, some have passed the debts on to collection agencies. I tried speaking to them on the phone at first but got nowhere so I'm writing letters to them all again explaining my situation.
Has anyone had this happen. what can I expect next, if they start sending people round to visit me, what's the best thing to do. I'm in rented accommodation and have sold most of my things already.
CCCS say the calls etc may get fewer as the creditors get their regular payments but I'm just wondering whet is likely to happen.
Wishing everyone on here all the very best.
Take care,
Dave

Hi Dave
Welcome to MSE, and well done on starting on your road to being debt free.
There are a group of us on this forum who have all recently started on DMP's some with CCCS, some withPayplan and some doing it themselves. We are all in the same position as you and you are welcome to join us on the New DMP support Thread. I am sure there will be people there who can help with any questions you have.

Hi Dave :hello:
Don't speak to them on the phone, when they ring tell them to put everything in writing. Then pass the letters onto the CCCS.
They shouldn't send people round to the house so don't worry about that.
They'll be a pain in the bum  until they realise they can't intimidate you into paying what you can't afford.
Cleverer people than me will be along soon

tru is right don't be intimidated by them. I suggest if any creditor gets heavy handed with nasty calls just tell then you are in the process of setting up a DMP with CCCS give them your reference number and direct them towards CCCS. Tell them that you wish any further contact to you to be in writing. Be polite but firm and if there is anything you are unsure of give CCCS a call and they will put your mind at ease.
Most importantly don't offer them any more than the CCCS payment, they can't have what you haven't got.
CCCS pay all creditors on a pro-rata basis so all are treated equally and get the payment proportional to your available money for debt repayment.DEBTS @ 1/1/07 - £25,800:eek: DEBT @ 04/05/11 - NIL

To be honest I sigh in relief when it goes to an agency with me they have been more willing to accept offers than the original companies.
I changed my phone number and told my family we were getting a lot of calls selling stuff and it was disturbing the baby. BT did not charge me for changing my number and I open letters after my cup of tea when my head is nearly at its peak.
COmpanies are not allowed to make you pay over what you can afford it takes a while for some of them to give in best thing is to be patient and stand firm with your offers. If they keep charging you interest complain that they are purposely dragging there feet in order to charge you extra interest and the courts would frown upon this - amazing how different replies I have had from that and interest refunded and accepted payments for a year.
I think once they see you are not going to be bullied they start playing ball. I believe that it has to go to courts and things before anyone calls at your house and if you are in DMP and paying regularly. (Once I sent my offer letters out I send the payments each month whether they accept or not) then courts would not look kindly on the companies for wasting there time if they are already getting payments.
Just make sure your repayments are affordable and you can meet them!0 -
