Black mark on credit file - impact on mortgage application?

Due to a stupid mistake on my side I sent my A+L current account into unauthorised overdraft which I believe is going to show up on a credit search (the amount has been cleared, but I suspect there will still be a black mark - is that correct?).

As we're looking to buy a new property in the very near future, I would like to understand how bad the impact will be, in particular with the Halifax which I'll most likely have to use as my current mortgage is with them and I want to port it.

I have never missed a payment/gone into unauthorised overdraft before.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry unduly as the most serious issues are missing mortgage payments.

Agreed - you should be fine

I've done a few "ports" with A&L and the clients had missed card payments etc, but the mortgage was all agreed

If you give them a call they will be able to give you a new illustration

Will you be looking to borrow more from them as well?

Halifax will be more concerned if going over your authorised limit is a regular thing as it means you cannot manage your finances on a day to day basis. A one off shouldn't make any difference and probably won't show on your file unless it was outstanding for a while. If it was a day and you rectified it, it probably won't show. To be absolutely sure, leave it a month and order your credit file or have a look online to see what if anything has been registered.
