Swintons ('nuff said)

Options
Daughter bought a replacement vehicle over the weekend, got her 7 day drive away insurance - the dealer warned her she would be bugged for quotes.

She hadn't even driven away, Swinton on the phone, "We can do that for £2900, what do you say, hmm, hmm??" Daughter had already checked out online quotes, and responded that she was already mid way through a year with Elephant, and was anticipating next years premium would be in the £500's. Swinton reply with "Well, I've had a look and we can offer you some discounts bringing it down to £2100"

Do they actually listen, or do they have a Duracell battery up their backside?

Your 7 days free insurance is not really free you know..

Who do you think is paying for this service?

And check the policy carefully. It may not include commuting during those 7 days.

Guess that if Swintons are behind it, that the dealers insurance is with MMA/Covea - I never knew they offered it, and always thought it was an Aviva add-on.

Dealers are also very slack at pointing out the drive away cover applies to the purchaser only.

I will get my hands on the documents soon to see what the cover was, but rest assured, I was a bit dubious about the cover offered (maybe contingent only, or 1,000,001 cop out clauses), so did a change of vehicle with her own insurer on the Monday morning.

Not free? How much do you pay for yours? I know I don't pay a penny :)

It's usually paid for by the marketing department of the insurer. I've never had 7 day cover by a dealer that does not cover SD&P + commuting (no point offering 7 days, 12 hours would be more than enough to allow the customer to get the car home)

In exchange for 7 days free cover, they get all your details and the possibility to flog you cover for the next year ... or 10. Bargain!
