First time post...
I have been offered a position in the South and am looking for guidance/experiences of those folk that work or have worked in ROI and live in NI.
I obviously have to arrange a bank account from the south to pay €s into.
What is the best value for my converting the €s? Am conscious of banks charging commission and transfer fees when moving across to my UK Account.
I am wondering if there are any better options available?
I have looked at currency brokers but the seem to only be involved in transactions greater than €5,000 unless someone is aware of companies dealing with smaller values.
Any useful ideas/comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

Well for a start I think you should speak to your own bank first before opening another account. Certainly if it's an Irish bank then you won't have to. If it's a GB based company you bank with they may well have a contingency for people working in ROI - all part of the big European thing.
I would also recommend speaking to a tax specialist because if you're paying tax in the ROI it may change your UK tax code.0 -
Some Republic of Ireland banKs have "sister" banks in the UK and they do not usually charge transfer fees for transferring from one to another. Links are historical as many NI banks used to have branches all over Ireland. Northern now Danske I think has sister bank National Irish Bank as sister bank I think for example.0

You will be paying higher taxes in Eire but some of that is reclaimable if you come back and work in the north afterwards. Definitely worth speaking to an accountant and getting some advice - speak to one in the border areas, they will have a lot of experience dealing with the personal finances of people who alternate a lot between UK/Eire workwise. They'll know also what banks will be good to deal with for your situation.0
