I would just add that many of the cashback sites also give you points (worth around 5p per search, but terms vary) for using a shopbot. So use shopbots via cashback sites (you usually have to click through to a retailer from the shopbot to get the cashback) and then go back to the cashback site and visit retailer via them (you may need to clear cookies).

However, how inexpensive and secure are these on-line shopping?
  • I often use https://www.bookbutler.com to search for books. It does a comparison of new and used books from places like amazon (including marketplace), whsmith, book depository and many others including worldwide sites. The total price includes the postage to wherever you want your book to be shipped.
  • Comparum price comparison
I found a new price comparison site http://uk.comparum.eu, the site is quite huge as they opened in mostly all western european countries at once. Probably they are working together with some big player like yahoo shopping.
p.s. Take care when compare prices, search for price comparison sites which includes also saving coupons and promotional codes. This will save you even more money. Unfortunately most price comparison sites doesn't offer it.
  • There is a new price comparison site for perfume and fragrances at http://www.cheapperfumeexpert.com/ and although it's still in beta release and the search isn't working fully, it's perfectly possible to find some good bargains and the number of products being compared is already more than Kelkoo in their Perfumes and Fragrances category.

I always use a shopbot to do a price comparison before I buy.
    Amazing the variations in price.
    Favourite sites are

    www.find-book.co.uk
    www.find-dvd.co.uk
    www.find-games.co.uk (PS3, XBOX Games etc)

I buy a lot of items over the internet, but tend to only give my credit card details to companies I have heard of ie HMV, Play, etc
I have never had a problem with security.

  • Having searched for a tumble dryer via several shopbots where the price was supposed to included p&p I found when I went to the sites ( although both were under different names they seem to be the same company) there was a £15/£18 delivery charge thus making the item dearer than many others.
Complained to the company who said they would rectify it but will they......watch this space??

Why oh why can internet developers not write their websites properly?

We're not all Internet Explorer users. Some of us have realised how much more powerful Firefox is.

These sites are absolute pants with Firefox.

You are right, they should be written correctly, but the fault does lie with Internet Explorer and its 'interesting' variations on open standards that is to blame. I'm currently writing a new site, and the number of things that look totally different in IE because of the non-standard way it handles CSS is incredible. You have to save, and reload the page after virtually every change to see what's broken in IE.

The other solution, which a lot of these people obviously went for, is to code the page for IE's quirks in the first place. It's a lazy replacement for writing valid code then adding tricks to get IE to work, but it's easier and enough people use IE to make it viable.

    Sadly.
