Scottish Police: Concerns raised over £100m debts...

Being in debt to this tune does not bode well for 2013.
Why has this matter not been dealt with before now?
"These figures are alarming and clearly the SNP failed to keep tabs on this. People will look at the £6m being spent servicing this debt and wonder just how much safer their streets would be if that were not the case."

Labour come in and turned the heating up, left all the lights on, pawned the assets and blew the budget.
That's no better than an out of control heroin addict!
This has come to a head because of the "system change". Wait until the truth of the NHS figures has to come out
I fully expect England's police debt to be 10 times as much (in line with population) seeing we're all living in the same UK Ponzi Ltd0 -
Gotta love this quote from the OP's article:"The new Police Service of Scotland will not lose out, the Scottish government is providing the funds to service the debt."
It shows the socialist mentality at its worst. The Scottish Government doesn't run a surplus so the money will have to come from cuts elsewhere to fund this. What'll it be do you think? Cancer meds? Street sweeping?
Ah, I know! What about a cut in wages for MSPs? They make £54,000 plus £60,000 in expenses plus £11,400 for living outside Edinburgh plus £12,500 if they are disabled plus 50p/mile for driving. That could easily be £150,000/year and on top of that an extra £25,000-£75,000 a year if they do something extra like being in the cabinet or some such! Oh, and there's a car hire allowance too.
There are 129 MSPs at a total cost of about £25,000,000 in wages & expenses alone. Suspending the Scottish Parliament while keeping all non-MSP staff employed on full wages, keeping the lights on in Scotch Parliament etc would entirely cover the shortfall. Perhaps they could pass a final law stating that all prices paid, wages etc would rise by inflation as measured by the ONS for the next 5 years.0 -
Is it not a case that the changes in the "system" are designed to make a saving?
At least they are doing something to try and help it.
Yes, I agree about the PM's expenses. It's even worse when they have to travel to London and pay double for everything.
Parliament should be held in a cheaper more central part of the UK for the good of the Country.0 -

Yep. I would go further thoiugh; I think it should in fact be outside the UK and the EU for the sake of neutrality, and the Isle of Man springs to mind as it's one of the few parts of the British Isles to have Devo-Max, from running its own NHS to just about everything else. Every nation in the UK would know what it feels like to be run by a parliament remote and outside their country.
Quite tax-efficient too I would imagine.:beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
