Car Purchase Scheme

Looking at possibly getting a new(er) car, as mine is approaching 20 years, and getting breakdown cover for the UK is tough, and Europe even worse, plus its rather small for our family.

Considering various options (new/used) and different finance methods (including shuffling 0% deals, bank finance, dealer schemes etc.). Alliance & Leicester used to do a car purchase scheme, where you could offset the future value of the car (like the dealer's schemes witha balloon payment at the end) but I can't see any evidence of this on their website. Anyone know if any companies now offer this independent of vehicle manufacturer/dealer?

Also, does anyone offer a current account that can be offset against a personal loan, similar to the offset mortgages? I rent a house (no hope of buying until prices crash) so anything that requires a mortgage in the mix is no use.

TIA

They do, but it's just a standard personal loan.

    Thanks

Yes, found a leaflet on this at the till yesterday. Only available on new cars purchased through them though. I am trying to avoid products that are "locked" to a particular purchase channel (unless they offer me an exceptional deal of course :-) )

    Thanks

  • Any reason for not going with straight hire purchase?

Prohibitive monthly cost. I'm currently playing off affordability on a month on month basis and whole life cost, and just want to have all my options worked out, a standard finance package may end up being my best option, but I want to see how other methods compare.
