Go into rented before BR

  • I agree with all other posts, if you are not worried about losing your house, stop paying mortgage and save for BR fees and rental deposit. If you do this first, then you will pass the checks that letting agents put in place. My DH and I did that and we moved into our rented place and then went BR 3 months later, we then went down the vol repo route.

Yes there is a stigma about BR but its not all bad and if its a way to get your life back in order then go for it. (The OR will decide whether you need to pay an IPA and that lasts 3 years, but its surprising how quick it goes).

If your life currently is desperately trying to juggle finances and still have enough left over to eat (and you know that times are bad when you have to pay the mortgage on the credit card, or was that just us?) then BR is truly a light at the end of the tunnel.

Do contact CAB (though in our case they weren't overly helpful, just referred us to a load of info online, which we could have done ourselves), or the National Debtline people are amazingly helpful, they don't judge and are very matter of fact.

Just remember, this is your life and you have to do what you can to keep a roof over your head - it's no big deal if it's a rented roof, the possessions you put into it and your family which make it your home. :j
  • Just noticed your car valued at £1200, you should be ok with that, OR valued my car at around £1500 so they let me keep it, DH's car was worth about £5K (not on finance), but they allowed him £1500 to buy another, so we just went out and bought an old (non popular) car which has been, so far, worry free, ok its not the car a petrol head would choose, but it gets you from A to B and back from B to A. :)
