Blemain finance - who are they?

I have just received a letter addressed to both my husband and myself from blemain finance stating that we have made an overpayment and asking for our bank details to refund us. Having taken account of various scams over the last few years we were instantly suspicious as we have never, to our knowledge, used this company. We did have a second mortgage on our property but this was paid in full in October 2010 and it was definitely not with Blemain. I am trying to find out who else Blemain is linked to to see if they are linked in anyway to the company we did use. Can anyone help or has anyone else had one of these letters?

Theyre a lender. Who is your mortgage with? Or do you have a secured loan?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I've heard of Blemain Finance, I think they are legit.
However, there is a note on their website about scams (though not refund scams) - see here :

I'd give them a ring on 0161 276 2287 (taken from saynoto0870.com) and ask them if it is legit or not.

Our second mortgage was with acenden. This was paid in full and we have had no correspondence with them since. Our main mortgage is with a high street lender and is fully up to date. We are trying to see if there is a link between acenden and Blemain.0

Blemain have recently been fined for overcharging customers. May well be that the scammers are starting already.
If you did have an account with Blemain they would usually have your bank details as the Direct Debit would be coming from it. If not a DD set up then they would send a cheque I would guess.
If in doubt wait until Monday and call them to see if they sent the letter.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I've just received the same letter and as yourself & i can not remember using the company. I have called blemain finance and as i could not complete the security questions they could not give me any information over the phone, however they did say that if i wrote to them they would send out the full details or i could just complete the form without putting in my bank details and request a cheque to be sent to me.0

As this is a subsidiary of Blemain, you may be getting redress from the parent of the firm from which you had a mortgage.I am a mortgage broker.
