Hi
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me & my husband in the following scenario.
My husband has just got a new job (yay ! he is so unhappy in his current job), with his current employer they pay him on the 16th of the month for the 1-31st of that month ie. two weeks arrears, two weeks in advance. Well his new employer pays at the end of the month ie. 4 weeks in arrears (like most of us i should imagine). So between these two things it works out we'll be 1 month wages short of wages between leaving the old job and starting the new one. We have split the direct debits etc between two and half get paid on the 1st of the month out of my wages and the other half get paid on the 16th of the month when he gets paid.
May will as follows:
1st - my pay in 1/2 bills out.
16th - 3/4 of his old pay (leaving 3rd week into may) 1/2 bills out
June will be -
1st - my pay in, 1 week of his new pay in, 1/2 bills out
16th - 1/2 bills out
July will be -
1st My pay in, his pay in, 1/2 bills out
16th 1/2 bills out
So (sorry this is long winded) July will be okay cos we leave the money in the bank. May we will just about cope on 3/4 of his wage but June will be horrendous as we will be with only 1/4 of his wage !
I don't really wanna go over and over this with him cos he's so stressed with work and i'm so happy and proud that he's managed to get this job of his own doing. After 3months he gets another £2k per year which all helps with debt busting but really i don't know what i'm gonna do for June ?! 1 months of his old pay is 1190 ! I dunno where or how to cut back
Sorry for rambling, it's just im not sure where to start.
Thank you for reading

p.s currently he gets 18,500 pa from his main job and 1,800 from an evening job but really the evening job pretty much has to go when he starts the new job on 21,000. After 3 months it goes to 23,000. He said he can try and keep up with the evening job for a bit to tide over the switch but thats only about £50 net per fortnight.Hope that made some sense.

I don't want to worry you, but if he's only starting the last week of the month, he might not get the 1 weeks pay in June anyway. However, if he speaks to his new employers they may well be able to pay him a cheque as an advance against his wages.
The other option is to speak to the bank about maybe having a small overdraft to help tide you over, or changing some of the bills maybe? Could you take a mortgage break for a month or 2?
It's hard to see without knowing all the figures, so maybe pop up a SoA (see SouthernScousers sticky) so we can make more suggestionsTotal Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Well i went away and had another look through everything and he got his job letter. His pay day is actually 'on or before the 7th of the month by bacs' he has been told he will get the weeks pay. For the 16 may bills we can tighten up and be careful with money to cover it. For the 16th July bills we will have had his first full months pay on the 7th of July so thats fine. But for the 16th June bills we will have only 1/4 pay ! We already have an overdraft with the bank ( i have kept this debt to last because its with nationwide and their o/d rate is a lot lower than any of my other debts). Do they ever let you extend the o/d and reduce it by say £100 per month ?! Especially if your in debt and have had credit problems ? I'm so worried now.
I'm gonna go and speak to the bank but i'm not holding out any hope
I'd had a massive clear out money wise and (hopefully) finally realised if we dont sort out this debt we will never get to do any of the things we want to do in life and now it looks like we're gonna be pulled back down by more debt. And now i feel guilty cos i know he wants this job so badly and he's miserable where he is working.
