Student Loan abroad questions

I will be living in Canada from the beginning of January. I am keen to continue paying off my student loan.

First - does the company you work for abroad get linked to the student loan company? Is this even possible?

If not I assume it comes out of your Canadian bank account.
However, I have heard that there is a substantial bank charge for transferring the money from your Canadian bank to your student loan. Is this true?

Many thanks

  • I can't imagine The Student Loan Company will be able to deduct money from a Canadian pay check.

You will need to inform them that you are moving abroad, and they will ask you to complete an assessment form. From this, they will calculate how much you need to pay each month.

I live abroad and pay about 40gbp each month. You can do it online, or set up a monthly direct debit. Just make sure you have funds in a British bank account to make the payment.
