They may have taken early retirement through ill health or redundancy, and may have disability or health issues and prefere the peace of mind of having help close by if they need it.0 -
My Aunt took ill health retirement in her fifties. Being able to move into a sheltered housing bungalow was a godsend for her. It meant she didn't have to worry about stairs (she had breathing problems) and was eligible for shared equity, freeing up some cash to enjoy herself. She had some lovely expensive holidays with the extra money.seven-day-weekend wrote: »There is a McCarthy and Stone development near us, which is quite nice and I can imagine someone in their twilight years enjoying living there with the sheltered accommodation it provides.
The age limit is over-55s:eek:
Why on earth someone only in their late 50s would want to live there I have no idea. They could be working for another ten years!
Not saying it's for everyone, but the security and low maintenance aspect of retirement housing can suit many slightly younger people, as well as lots of much older people.0 -
smells like :spam: to meI think all retired persons and pensioners should look forward to get a old age home or assisted living facility for them, as they really need some special facilities to be provided at their stage of life. As there are some very well organized old age home providers are working around some countries to assist such persons.0 -

Sounds like one of RuggedToast's cronies, advocating that the properties of all Babyboomers are confiscated, donated to the (sometimes underserving) young aspirational homeowners, and that we are all shipped off to Coffin Ghettos :eek:
I for one intend to stay put. Like MargaretClare, my OH and I carefully researched when we retired, and bought a user-friendly bungalow, in an area where we were in walking distance of all facilities. Sadly OH didn't have as long to enjoy it as we had anticipated - but I know that what I have is completely manageable by myself alone.
Oh yes - and I'm back at work - so not yet for the knackers' yard!0
