Karley's "What would you attempt if you knew you couldn't fail' Diary

Hello to anybody reading..

My name is Karley, I spend too much and don't earn enough! I have been a lurker on here for a few years, but obviously not a very good one because I didn't pick up all of your good habits.

Myself and my OH currently have a credit card each with amounts of around £1000 and £1500 respectively (I am approximating his!). Mine is on 0% until September 2013.

However, today HMRC have decided I owe them £600 and 3 weeks ago our landlord informed us we have to move out in March because they are selling.. we only moved in 2 months ago! So we need a deposit/fees etc to move to another rented property.

Basically I'm writing this diary to try and shame myself into growing up and being more financially responsible so in a few years we can have a mortgage and then a baby without these problems arising with no visible solution. Although our debt isn't high I want to pay it off ASAP so we can start saving for the future, although realistically it may need to go up before it can go down to cover the events above.

If you're still reading this.. Thankyou and I apologise for this rambling session and many more to come. :o

  • What have I done today?

Well I sat on my laptop and did not a lot! lol.

I received a payment of £6.88 from Quidco.
I had a £5 amazon voucher from swagbucks and am now about 2/3rds of the way to another. Whoop!
I sold 3 small beauty items on ebay for £7.40.

I also this evening went to a local preschool's "Christmas shopping night". I did spend £7 on some jewellery and £2 on body shop goodies because I felt guilty there weren't many people there and some people barely made their fee for the table. I then put £1 for raffle tickets and won a £15 tesco voucher, so don't feel as bad about spending the money! It was arranged weeks ago and I had put aside £25 for it so not too bad at all really. :)

Hello ... Your diary title interested me :)

Your debts ant too bad, but get a Plan organised and put it in action and you'll soon whip it into shape :)

    Good luck
  • Hello Elantan!

    Thanks for dropping in :)

My plan at the moment is basically to streamline the "stuff" we have in our flat,we don't use it, we don't need it so why do we have it? We could be selling it and using the money towards above problems! Unfortunately I have no overtime available (I work in retail in a struggling shop!). My OH is an upholsterer so they shut down over xmas, but he will be doing as much overtime as possible in January (if there is any - very dependant on what work they have.) Also working on swagbucks and other survey sites for the little extras.

My diary name actually came from the place I went to tonight, was on a wooden pencil case. I was honestly at the point where I was just thinking get a £2000 loan to cover both, but the quote made me stop and think what I could "attempt". :)

I really like the streamlining idea, I found after we were burgled I looked about and realised there was nothing that I would've missed shoul it have been stolen, I found that very interesting

Hope the upholstering business is doing good for OH orders coming in etc

Your diary title is one of my life moto's I have had it in my signature since the day I joined MSE :)
  • I also like the quote along the lines of
"Have nothing in your house which you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful"

Shall be my new motto when I start my big clear out.

My main vices are dvds and buying things (especially beauty boxes/items) because they're a "bargain". I'm hoping that by having this diary I'll stop buying these things because I'll be too ashamed to admit it lol.

Ahhh yes I have that same problem lol ... I have now set myself a challenge not to buy anymore and to use all I have ... I've been at it for a while and will be at it for years lol
  • Yeah I think I'll be doing the same. Need to have a proper go through of what I have!

Not got much done today, not been feeling great. Had a bit of a tidy up. Packaged up and sent 2 of the 3 parcels from yesterday. 2 items set to sell today, whoop whoop! Sent a letter to the HMRC telling them they need to update their phone system.. Done swagbucks goal for today :)

As tesco say, every little helps :money:

    Hello,

I have also read this somewhere recently "Have nothing in your house which you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful"
I would love to aspire to that, OH loves to leave piles of stuff everywhere neither useful or beautiful!! :rotfl:
Your streamlining idea may get used over xmas :)

Well done for not letting things get out of control (guilty as charged on that one!)

If you have a beauty/toiletry problem go over to the couples/family board and join the no buying toiletries challenge. I joined a couple of months ago and so far I have not brought any in December...yet!

    Have a good day :)

  • Hi Motoko!

    Thanks for popping over!

I don't know how well I'll do with streamlining, just don't seem to have the energy for it. Will keep pushing on though.

I think I will pop over to that thread... however I am waiting for a body shop delivery so would be a bit of a fraud lol.

Trying to stay in control of debts/money owed but will be very hard in the next few months!

  • Just paid my car insurance (£405 :()

However I'd budgeted £480 so £75 to put into the savings account for HMRC money.
