Making our own wedding rings

Hello,

I am getting married in March, and we have to sort out our rings. We was going to see if we would have any luck in the sales, however we watched Kirsties Home Makeover (was on Sky+ so only just seen it). In the show, the couple made there own rings, which is an idea we both love. I have done a google search and emailed a few places we liked the look of, but they do not have any weekends available before the wedding.

Has anyone done this before, and if so, where did you go to do this or as anyone got any recommendations, prefer in the North West.

Thanks

We made my engagement ring with Samara James.

You can choose where you get your metal from and diamonds too, its lovely being able tell the story of my ring.

You then can sketch your design and get a ring made to yor design in a cheaper metal to start with, you then make amendments etc and finally end up with your perfect ring.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • I had my wedding ring made my a last called Charlotte Brown, who is based near Halifax after meeting her at a wedding fair.

Her designs are a little different but very beautiful, and she works with most metals. My ring was white gold and was a very good price (although I did not have any diamonds put in so probably why it was so cheap).

http://www.charlottebrowndesigns.co.uk/index.htm Her website doesn't show very much, and when I was choosing my ring design she listened to exactly what I wanted.

Thanks so much for your replies.

I think there maybe a misunderstanding. We want to actually physically make the rings ourselves. The design we want is a simple band, and there a couple of places that do this, but when Ive emailed or spoken to them they are fully booked until after our wedding :(

Anyone know of any other places that do this.

    Thanks Again.

my neice and her husband made their wedding rings some years ago during a weekend away in cornwall here http://www.mcsj.co.uk/making-your-own-wedding-rings.html
....appreciate thats the other end of the country from you but there are places that do offer the type of thing you want....from memory they took about a month to be delivered following the wekkend that they spent making them,so it may be that you might have left it a little late to get them in time for your wedding

You could always think about going and making an eternity ring though in the future.

just googled a bit and found this place in edinburgh
    http://www.makeweddingrings.co.uk/page2.htm

There seem to be several others based mostly in the southern half of the country...but you could always think about making it a pre wedding weekend away.

  • I know there are few designers up in dumfries and gallowaay perhaps if you rang them and explained what you both would like they might let you do it at their studios or tell you where else could make it.

  • Thats a beautiful idea, we are getting married Oct next year and this would be perfect for us. I wonder if it is expensive. I don't know of anywhere sadly :-(

It usually costs about £250 plus the cost of the gold or whatever you choose as your ring metal....so I guess its not the cheapest option available but its certainly a consideration if you are looking at mid to top end priced rings...and then theres the story behind them too......

Thats not so bad maybe because we are in the SE/London but the ones I can find are £450 just for the course! We have set aside 1k for both our rings, its a lot for us but its the one part of the day that will last forevery so we think its worth it.

I can't help with a specific course in this country, but I went on a day course overseas which had a number of couples making their own rings. The only thing I would say is to check that you will be able to make what you want - the course I was on we were limited with the thickness of the band (it was considerably thicker than I wanted).
