Hi

I have just left my previous company and started contracting. I had a pension with them that I need to find a home for elsewhere.

The thing is i have no idea what I should be looking at in terms of a private pension?

Ideally I want to be able to choose not to pay in some months if for example im out of work.

Can anyone advise what sort of pensionI should be looking at?

Also anything to avoid?

Thanks so much in advance,

First question is why. Why do you need to move it from where it is?

Normally, when you leave a company, your pension is frozen in their scheme, awaiting your eventual retirement.

Do you mean that you want to take out a new pension to make new contributions to?

Sometimes, compaines insist you move your pension and I assume this is what the OP is talking about.

Sounds to me like you want a Lumpo sum pension, or pne that allows variable payments.

Do you want to make your own investment decisions? If so, a Sipp could be right for you. Plenty of ones have online platforms.

Or you need a personal pension. Again ou can DIY like a Sipp online, or you c an arrange one via an IFA. Look at unbiased.co.uk if you don't know of a good one.

Well you do I as mentioned several

Sounds like you need an IFA if you can't be bothered to check them out. Use the site I mentioned, never touch a Bank FA EVER.

For someone with 'no clue' I dont think a SIPP is necessary. A simple personal pension will do just fine.

    Here's a list, pick one:

    Aviva
    Scottish Life
    AXA Wealth
    Legal & General
    Prudential
    Skandia
    Scottish Widows

That's sort of in the order of my personal preference.

    http://www.aviva.co.uk/personal-pension/ to find out more.

If you can't afford an IFA (circa £500, i'd say) then just follow the link. If you would like the help of an IFA, as recommended, go to https://www.unbiased.co.uk to find a local one
