  • You're right - I'd had a (really) bad day so apologies for the aggressive tone of my post.

For clarity though, had the answer been yes, you can keep the car and not have to pay - what would you do?
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • With regards to whether they can sell you a car for less if you pay cash or take finance, yes they can, of course they can. They can sell it for whatever price they see fit to whoever they want. The car has an advertised OTR list price. They don't have to sell you the car for a penny less than this if they don't want to. If they want to give a bigger discount to people signing up to Audi Finance then so be it. Its up to you whether it works out better for you to sign up and settle early paying some interest and early settlement charges to get a cheaper invoice price, or whether you want to pay more and not have the finance.

The question is, does the interest/charges add up to more than the £3k disount?

I assume that the Audi Solutions finance plan has a set up Terms and Conditions. In this set of terms and conditions will be details of early settlement charges, including whether you can cancel in 14 days or not. Is the 14 day thing a statatury (sic?) right? If it is, it will result in one of two things:

    1) You will settle the invoice price and keep the car
    2) You will extracted from the finance agreement with no payments made and Audi will retain the car

Ask to see a copy of the T&C's of the finance before you hand over the deposit.

The reason that they offer a bigger discount to finance customers than to cash is that they are given incentives by the manufacturer to sign people up to finance packages. The dealer can then use some or all of this incentive to further discount the car and ensure you buy it. They have stated that the finance includung the discount is better than 0%. I assume they can state this because the interest you pay over the full term may be less than the £3k discount.

  • Its not better than 0% though. The car is just shy of £50k including a discount I negotiated, then we take off their £3k contribution, I still pay back over £53k total. For it to be better than 0% then my total amount repayable would have to be under £50k.

Is the £53k if you pay the full term of the loan or if you settle early? What do the the T&C's say about early settlment?

Also, have you tried going to another Audi dealer. If you take your current quote to a different Audi dealer I am sure one them will have a go at beating it. There will be a dealer out there somewhere who is close to target on Q7's and will be more than happy to knock a couple of thousand off a £50k car to hit it and make a massive bonus from Audi
