Hi everyone, i'm thinking of going on the taxi's and i am wondering if its best buying a car or renting one and paying settle. I think the weekly settle is around £80 -£100 per week. and the radio hire is £100 per week.
with renting theres no breakdown costs involved or MOT'S.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME DECIDE WHICH IS BETTER AND WHY?

That depends how much you're looking at making per week really.
I gave cabbing a go a while back via a loophole in the licensing system. A local firm were taking people on a providing 'training' until we could get our badges. Gotta be honest, the job was very enjoyable and I met a lot of really great people but the money was appalling. We had several blokes that would work 18 hour days to survive and have a half decent standard of living while the rest of us were lucky to take home just under the NMW. Despite that I stuck it out as I enjoyed the job but unfortunately a couple of health issues made that short lived0 -
If it's your first time, try it as a driver first. The weigh-in seems heavy to me unless it's a big town or city and make a point of being the controllers best pal if you want to make money. Equally if you want to just get by, do day shifts and do the cut-price supermarket runs, but if your serious and want to make the big bucks, "speed"ing along thoughout club hours at the weekend will give the best income.0

Being short on change also increases tips
(along with being chatty, friendly etc).
I experimented with this a bit. When i wasn't chatty, or very friendly, tips were non existent. When I kept them chatting, the tips would roll in. Not always much but every little helps.0
