Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good value turkey crown? Im guessing frozen is cheaper than fresh?
This is the first year I have ever had xmas at our house so pressure is on, but having just had a baby budget is modest :-)
Any advice appreciated!

Cheapest is to buy the whole turkey... I was looking at it the other day a medium sized one (2.6kg) from any major supermarket is £16 but the whole turkey (3.9kg) is £15.:footie:

Really? thats interesting, I suppose youre paying extra for the convenience, which I have to admit, is what appeals to me about the crown. With a baby crawling around, and it being the first xmas, I am looking for shortcuts wherever I can get away with! - lazy I know.
Plus no-one likes leg meat so it usually just goes in the bin or to the cat :-)0 -
It is worth remembering that a Whole Frozen Turkey will include Giblets and all the bones in the weight, where the Crown is Breast Meat and Breastbone usually.
If you only like Breast Meat then go for a Crown, if you want more theatre go for a Whole Bird.0 -
thats a good point. I dont fancy 'de-gibletting'! Will go for the easy option I think. Anyone seen any prices out and about. I havn't checked yet. The only price I have in mind is from my local butcher and thats £35 for a fresh turkey to feed 6-8 people (not sure of weight). And Marks and Spencer is also £35 but for a smaller crown to feed 4-6.
Someone mentioned to me about Aldi frozen crown?0 -

Ha ha remember my first experience of crown from M & S many years ago - busy working and had a guest with us on Xmas day so went for easier option as per all magazines and the glossy brochures. It cooked lovely but no juices to make a gravy with - arghhh! Its not the same without gravy. So if you go the crown route buy in some turkey gravy or some quality stock with which to make it - realising on the day no use (as I did). HTH
Or cook a whole bird as has been suggestd and get stock for gravy (could cook it the night before once little one napping). One less thing to do Xmas day.
Have a great xmas.0 -
