HELP!! What to buy DS aged 13

Hi. Here is an impossible question to answer

What do I buy my 13 year old DS for christmas?? Here is what he doesn't want

- a laptop
- a tablet
- a smartphone
- clothes of any kind
- money
- tickets to anything - shows football etc
- X Box games
- books (though i have got a couple that I know he likes
- i pod

He has asked for a couple of DVDs and CDs that others are getting him. He has also had suggested to him (by his sister) that he could have a PSP Vita, but they are nigh on £200 and I just don't think he will get the use, I won't let him have any COD type games so we are down to FIFA and F1, both of which he has on X Box. I really don't want to pay that money for something that will moulder away in his bedroom.

ANy ideas? What are your Teenage sons getting?
I wanna be in the room where it happens

  • our son is 13 :) He's having three books and a stocking from us which takes him up to budget. Everyone else is giving him money as he wants a PC game, I think.

As an aside...he and his friends play COD and I promise you that all they get out of it is enjoyment. There have been no backlashes at home...quite the opposite, in fact: when his teenage temper threatens to overtake him he hies him away upstairs and kills a few things onscreen, and comes back to us as his cheery self :)

ive given in and let ours play cod, he turns sound down as has 9 year old sister and repects the rules.
I hate these games more than i can say but everything in moderation these days, if this makes me awful mother oh well .....
    :A :j
  • Is he in to outdoor pursuits? You could get him a survival kit and a decent penknife etc? Ours all had penknives at 10 years so that one's no use to us this year (sigh)

    Loads of classic DVDs?

DVD box sets (ours love the old retro stuff), decent aftershave, first electric razor, heavy duty work socks (don't laugh!), tents, sleeping bags, air beds, hiking gear, netflix or similar, a nice shirt or a pair of jeans, a decent named bag or rucksack, posh shower gel and deo, leather football, promise to repaint the bedroom and get new bedding to their choice, a promise for a saturday afternoon with a couple mates ....... (actually that sounds bad) - what I mean is you will give him and a friend a lift into town and pay for a film and takeaway and then pick them back up later in the evening.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Mine is 12 3/4 and is getting a themed chess set, dvds, xbox head-phones, long dressing gown (he pinches mine!). Does he play any sport? If so could you think of something for that such as fishing gear or skateboard.

Other thoughts. Does he like art so you could buy him things like acrylic paints and watercolours and drawing pencils or woodwork and you could buy him some tools?
