New Vista Pc Won't Connect To Web..

Options
My problem...
Have a new Vista Pc...
My router is a one port Origo ASR 8000 el chepo bought from Ebuyer about three years ago.
This "router".. which has served me well... was supplied with a disc which i installed on the Pc i am using now.

When my new Pc arrived i went through the exact same procedure of setting up my internet connection as i did with this Pc.
(although i did have a bit of trouble with the Windows Installer)

I have a icon on my desktop "ADSL Router Set Up" i click on the icon and a set up box appears asking me to put my ISP Account Information plus
Username and Password.
There is also a highlighted small box asking me to..
"Save and Reboot"
On my new Vista Pc i get to the stage of inputting my username and password...
but...
the "Save and Reboot" box is not highlighted!!

I have the Router connected via the Ethernet connection.
Also the Vista connection icon ...keeps telling me i have .."Limited Connectivity" and sometimes it says "Local Only"
Where am i going wrong???

Right now i have not got a Scobby Doo what to do!!

Thanks...

I've got the feeling you don't need the disk ???

    just remove the software

the router should just connect to the Pc and then you enter the Admin panel (the address for that is normally in the manual) and enter any user-id-s that are required

might be worth powering off the router for a few minutes

At first tried connecting without the disc but had "Limited Connectivity"...that's why i installed the disc.

    The Admin panel??
is that the address for the router ??
..you put it in the address bar of your browser?
(opens up the router techie information)??

If so....tried that...work's on this Pc but not the Vista one.

    All wired up!
  • So you have a router which needs software? Most routers use their own firmware to store and use settings for the internet.

You usually access router configuration page using an internal address. The most common are....

    192.168.1.1
    192.168.2.1
    10.0.0.1

I'd go into your browser and enter each of these into the address bar and hit Enter. If your router has an admin page, you'll see it pop up. Otherwise, i've no idea. I never owned a router which didn't have onboard config!

I dont actually understand if you've connected to your router or not. Check your IP address!

    if it is wired up.

    start, search, cmd
right click on cmd, run as admin

    in the black box, type

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig

note the gateway address, and put that in IE

    e.g. http://10.0.0.2

    Admin EPICROUTER
